As a system of war weariness, I feel it might be a good idea for ships to have X3 the upkeep when at war thus promoting shorter (And hopefully smarter) wars for poor economic races.

This way the waring races will need to properly plan their invasions as to prevent themselves from running their economy's into the ground, and should help promote more peaceful games (Or at least smarter war like ones.)

Hmm interesing idea, but i see some problems with it:

1) The new patch which is about to release this week already changes the fleet upkeep formula, this will increase the cost of your fleets dramatically (up to 6-fold in lategame). Another 3-fold increase during wartime would probably be unpayable.

2) This system would also require that the AI plans its wars much better, and as you know the AI has already enough problems with strategic decisions right now.

3) Poor Cravers. They'll get a new trait: Eternal recession. smiley: sad

This is really a big disadvantage for cravers.

You could increase the upkeep for peaceful races because they have to prepare more for war than aggressive races with military tradition but that would even more bring the game in imbalance. Though i don't see a point in increasing upkeep...

Personally, while I think those are good ideas I would be fearful that we would create this gargantuan game that only veteran players could grasp. The current upkeep model, I think, balances the two. Fleets in a colony shouldn't have too much upkeep but fleets involved in multiple battles per turn would have astronomical costs. Having a dynamic formula that takes this into account would become unwieldy and unpredictable. Maybe I am just going all doomsday on a simple idea, idk haha.
