I'm not sure if this has already been posted.

I have been playing the game a lot since downloading it and have noticed that for the majority of manual ship combat, that i seem to be looking at the pretty space background rather than whats going on in the combat - or even been able to have the pleasure of watching the other guy blow up. the camera angles just seem to be slightly off most of the time

We have added this to our list of community suggestions & wishes the "free camera" for combats already; as you can see, those are ideas we might implement before the actual release or even after. Make sure you check that thread before submitting other ideas.
