You have got plenty approval in the screenshot you showed us, and for most planets you don't lose a lot of approval by expanding to those. If all else fails you can easily afford a lower tax rate if you have got a higher population.

If you are playing on normal speed there is not much you can do from that position, if no other victory condition is met earlier whoever has the most points win after 300 turns.

For your next game you should probably expand more aggressively, it is okay that approval is low in a few systems.

Here we go (turn 297)

overview: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=121744048

map: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=121744067

I was involved into small war with all 3 factions (sowers, sophons and cravs - about 60 to 80 round) and win those 3 planets on crossroads between all of them. I started transforming planets into terran, making 3 DNs fleet and... how I supose to win? Im allied with sophons, friendly with sowers and war with cravs. Should I destroy them all? I got full aprovall but if I take their systems...

Ok. Got it. My favorite part is Test of Time. Classic and with a lot of fun. Kinda dislike new ones. I mean I dont hate but dont like much.

I must agree it is more arcade but for now Im playing 2nd week and getting bored. I started new game after reading tips from U guys and I have homesystem with 3 planets, jungle + asteriods. Crappy but im trying my best.

Civ5 = Civilization 5, it's also 4X game but it bigger name than ES.

in Civ5 if you play on Epic or Marathon mode which is pretty damn long to build, research, everything is took damn long time and it have different era

so if you out tech other faction then you pretty much own the entire world, Spear Vs Assault Rifle? think about that.

i felt ES bit more Arcade compare to Civ5 so the normal default speed is good enough while i prefer damn long speed in Civ5.

i always play as normal since this game better at fast pace more than Civ 5 and still be fun, for food problem try to build anything that relate to food.

most of time with new colonized planet i always build ton of food production then when population about to full, i change it to something else or scrap it.

Yay srsly? Didnt notice. This change a lot.

Anyway I tried two new games and I get fea tier 1 planets and rest worse with poor anomalies and resources. I will upload some results soon (after my brainwash week at work will end).

One more question at what speed do U play guys? Since we're talking about play improvment its very inportant. Im playing on normal speed and I need lots of turn to populate more than one planet in system (it take some time and dunno why because I had plenty of food and first planet ia full -1 after colonizing other planet).

if your system and planet is good enough then you don't need to go for Approval tech except if you want to increase tax rate without hurt much.

well in case if your planet suck with shit anomaly then you really need Approval tech before it drag you down, grab infinite market seem enough.

here are some things that got me past a similar hump to yours (obviously, these may or may not help you, but hopefully they will):

• you say you get to 100 turns, and you're describing your tactics. well... whatever they are, stop doing them and try different stuff. this is true of any game, obviously not just ES. but if you're doing similar stuff each time then you'll likely get similar results. it seems like you're looking for significantly changing your style, so stretch out and try stuff.

• expand more quickly and colonize more planets. it's simple math; you have to get more going on early in order to keep up. to figure out how to do this, run some experiments. e.g., save a game on the first turn and try 10 different ways to get a colony ship to your third planet. which works fastest? saving a turn or two (or five) in this manner can be multiplied over and over.

• specialize. try letting planets/systems do one thing really well. experiment with it.

hopefully some of these help... it got me to the next level. now i just have to figure out the bloody combat system! smiley: smile

Hi guys.

Its my first post here and dont want to ask noobish questions but...

I enjoy ES. Its not my first game 4 x so im not so green as I was thinking few days ago (expecting "black magic UI"). I read about game mechanics (I get over approvall system and basic stuffsmiley: wink) on wiki, read tips on forum and watched tutorials on YT. The problems is that Im finishing game after around 100 turns [itsalreadymidgame?] on newbie difficult... My game looks like 4-6 systems with one planet, two fleets and lots of dusts. Mostly im playing with one "friendly race"

and Cravers. Problem is I cannot reach (for example) Sophons because Cravers are crawling everywhere. Im sending fleet and... Cravs blown it to smithereens (no "Black Jack" happy ending). Even playing 1vs1 with other races got same stuff, my 5 systems aginst their 10 or more (no matter with race I choose for AI). Im kinda dissapointed of my games as U see. I had ES since week and I get bored playing 100 turns and losing (my FIDS are like 20%). My last "good" game ended with lossing planets thanks to pirates - two "spawning fleets" events crush my little empire. I have no idea how to make fleet strong enough to deal with any AI.

Ah im complaining to much smiley: wink

So...

Is AI using same weapons and tactics for race? (like "my" Cravers using missiles and spaming Magnetic Field "card")

It is possible to block system and wait to starve population? I know there is no abandon button on taken colonies but I really want to wipe them from my "safe zone". [ForwardbasescouldbenicehelpforkeepingsystemsaroundcontrolledandrepairingfleetsbutIknowitiswrongsubforum]

Do AI had planets limits?

How many heros do U use? I have two, one fleet commander and one administrator on home system.

Should I rush to planets with wonders on lower tier planets?

It is possible to have affect with one fleet will be attacked by enemy (and vice versa) when I have few in one system or its somehow picking by game mechanics or it is totally random?

Sry for my english.

I read somewhere in forum about 5-10 planets in mid game (with is when? 100 turns?). Only one thing keeps me from making more colonies is aprovall. On screen I posted is 130 turn. I can post star system map and science panel (or part of it).

Its hard to say, but it does sound a bit like the AI is expanding faster than you. You said something about having 5 systems against 10 or more. You need to explore early as much as possible, and build colonies whenever available until you have a good strong number. I don't know that having only 5 systems is usually going to pan out for you. I've mostly had success expanding and having more than that. I usually expand early and try to get out to a somewhat distant choke point between myself and one or more AIs, then plant a colony there to block them off. When possible, stick a fleet on it and blockade the area so they can't get ships through and colonize behind you.
