I can confirm the crash on intro video, and I can confirm that disabling the overlay worked for me (including problems quitting).



System: Pretty much a stock 13" MacBook Air, with 8GB memory upgrade



Processor: 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 8GB

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB

OS: OS X 10.8.4 (12E3067)



Symptoms: Would crash every time on start, within less than of a second of the opening movie; required force quit to exit. No data for the game was persisted to the "Saved Application State" folder for any of the crashes (verified prior to resolution as described below).



Solution: As described by DrCeph, I disabled the Steam In-Game Overlay (within Steam, at Game Library, select Endless Space from Library, right-click and choose Properties; on General tab, unselect "Enable Steam Community In-Game"). Launch the game at that point, and it proceeds through opening Amplitude logo video to the initial menu. As described, quitting the game is not successful, but "Force Quit" works. After running in this way and quitting ("Force Quit"), I can confirm that the game folder exists under "Saved Application State" as described.

I was experiencing the freeze-on-first-movie problem (requiring force quit), and I just tried both methods separately - first disabling steam community in-game, then re-enabling it and deleting the saved state. Both worked, although for both I also experienced difficulty quitting (the window disappears, but the application remains open and stops responding). Doing both simultaneously also worked.



I am on a 13-inch, 1.8 GHz Intel i5 MacBook Air with 4GB RAM, OS X 10.8.4, and Intel HD 4000 with 512 MB graphics.

Wow!!!! DrCeph you are freaking awesome. Haven't been able to play this game since I bought it in June. Trying all the "fixes" I've come across and it was as simple as disabling the "Enable Steam Community In-Game" option. Thanks again.

This issue is now occurring on one of my machines. Technically it is not crashing, just endlessly hanging.

I was able to eventually run Endless Space again after shutting down, disconnecting from the Internet, booting up, then launching the game via Steam. I'm now experiencing another hang ( http://forums.amplitude-studios.com/showthread.php?18459-DISHARMONY-1.1.9-freeze-crash-after-a-manual-battle-with-a-retreat-not-fixed ).



There should be better messaging the app informing us of the hang or connection/initialization status.

I'm having this issue as well on my Macbook Pro. The game just hangs on the image after I set a game up. I will try some of the work arounds, but since I have never played the game before this is most likely a bug in the game and not an issue with my Mac.

HI, first time poster here

I'm running on an Imac with the following

Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512 MB

Software OS X 10.8.4



Was working great till the 'fail to open crash'

My issue is this: the file folder 'Saved Application State' that is to be found in the Library, DOES NOT EXIST, has anyone else encountered this? I can't even begin to attempt the work around. Any help is appreciated.
