I can't understand how the battle system works in multiplayer. If you choose manual battle, are you force the enemy player to engage in this battle or it's just for you?

It's just for you. If someone picks Auto and you pick Manual, the manual player watches the battle while the Auto player waits on the battle overview screen.

Does it matter what cards enemy is using or it's random?

The cards work like Rock, Paper, Scissors. If you look at each card, you'll notice that each has the type, the effect, and what they counter. To play a card you can look at the enemy ships and take a guess at what they'll be using.

If their fleet only has kinetic weapons, then they will likely use a card that empowers kinetic weapons. At this point you can look for a card that empowers your fleet's kinetic defenses or a card that will counter his card type.

The enemy can also use a card that empowers their ship defenses vs your weapons. So if your fleet is only missiles, they may use cards that increase their anti-missile defenses and destroy your fleet while taking 0 damage.

Big note for cards, most increase your ship stats by % amounts. Most of the time this % is related to what you put in your ships when you design them. Example: Magnetic Field won't do anything vs kinetics if your ships don't already have anti-kinetic defenses.

Heroes add complexity to this by adding their own very powerful cards into the mix. If you see an opponent using a hero cards, note what card it is and find what card best counters it (or build extra defenses vs the weapon that they're buffing with their cards, but this won't have as big of an effect as the cards are that powerful).

To sum it up, the battle system is based on what you put in your ships that counters the enemy, what they put in their ships that counters you, building ships in a way where cards won't be useless, and a bit of luck with picking cards vs the enemy. To spare you the pain of being bejesused online, long-range kinetics are powerful because despite having lower accuracy at long range, kinetics reach the enemy instantly (destroying a ship early lowers incoming DPS for the rest of the battle); beams and missiles take a few phases to actually reach the enemy (it's for this reason that you want to avoid using the nosebreaker formation with non-kinetic weapons).

I tried to keep it as simple as possible. If someone sees anything to correct, let me know so I don't go around handing out wrong info.

If both sides choose the manual battle, it will continue real-time or alternately?
