Can you please try my anomaly mod, and see if that works for you? None of the other mods are compatible with 1.0.14. If mine works, then please look into it and see if you can see any differences. One key point is "standalone=false" in index.xml.

On the off chance it was, it doesn't seem to me to be an issue with any particular mod, as the unmodded files also crash the game.

Since last night, I have modded the files under the Public folder in the game directory instead of the Modding directory and the mods work just fine. Move them to the modding directory and the game CTD's.

The best I've been able to do is get the game to restart itself. (That's pretty unusual behavior.)

I will play with other mods and see what the effects are, although for now, my needs seem to be met in terms of the ridiculously unbalanced game parameters I'm looking for.

@longstreet63 :Am I getting the steps correctly?

1) Copy-pasting the contents of the Public folder in My Documents/Endless Space/Modding/

2) Running the game

3) Loading it via the mod screen

4) CTD?

I can not download the PDF file, always blocked by a login dialog. Is it a dead link?

@ ccav6, many people report trouble downloading. Try this.

1. Log out of the forum and log back in.

2. Else try a different browser (firefox vs IE, etc)

3. Else clear your browser cookies.

@ loicus, please add these comments to the OP. Everytime somebody posts a link to a file on the forum, this happens.

@ longstreet63, after you get the crash, please look into (steam install dir)\Endless Space\EndlessSpace_Data\output_log.txt, and search for the string "Modding". This will show you any messages related to reading the mod. For example, I have noticed that if the files are read-only, it may crash. Perhaps investigating these messages will help. Please post if you find a solution that way.

If unmodded files crash your game you may want to either

a) install game again or

b) in Steam, righclick Endless Space, take bottom option (for me it's Ominaisuudet, quess it's Settings or something in english :P), local files, check gamefiles defragment (or what ever it is in English).

B eventually notices if you are missing any files, if you are not and you still crash it's time for A.

If problem is via you trying to open unmodded mod and it crash then problem is most likely same... you are probably missing some important files :/

Not sure whether this has been told or asked before:

Is it possible to start modded game instead of pure game? (I don't want to go back to assets files but atleast it made testing easier :P)

Especially in part where you test mod features and see what you have done it gets rather annoying to have to restart game twice. (Best so far has been 10 restarts in 2 hours.. it just gets annoying).

This is mentioned multiple times in the instructions. In the steam properties tab, select "launch options" and add "+mod yourname" to the command line.

Actually to be more exact: the name of the the mod folder... or atleast that worked for me (starting first mod name, then own name and finally folder :P)

Anyway you should know me already, I'm full of what sounds silly question but will be something what eventually will be asked dozen times smiley: biggrin ... though this time it was just silly question without any revelations to anybody

@ mJrA, I am pretty sure you have found a bug in the example mod. In my two released 1.0.14 mods, I have deleted the thumbnail field from index.xml so the thumbnail section of the mods tab is blank. I suppose that for the example mod, the author has left the thumbnails fields unchanged, but the pictures are not present in the mod directory. So the game is forced to use a red ? icon to indicate that the picture mentioned in the mod index file is missing.

Where exactly are Gui/Thumbnail-*.jpg? If you move the files so that no subdirectory path is needed, and update index.xml to match, then does it work?

Is it possible the thumbnails must be exactly a certain pixel size else they are ignored? Or, only certain types of jpeg compression are supported?

Mmmm, If that mod doesn't work at all you might want to try what happens if you rename folder to just 1 word or couple letters long.

I first tried to use folder called: Endless Dream but for some reason it didn't work. As soon as I renamed it to mod it started to work wonderfully.
