The Leralons (Faction)

I like this faction and would like to see it in the game.
I like this faction, but I feel that it could be improved.
This idea is bad, and HumanSpacer should feel bad.

You can try, the ship currently looks more like a... whatever the Millennium Falcon was... and it's so familiar, what is it inspired from?

In the original concept I made for this, I was inspired by Forerunner ships from the Halo franchise. Actually, I've been trying to draw several types of ships with this kind of design, but they ended up becoming not very good ship designs.

Or, if you take a closer look the to Endless architecture, you can see that it have a similar type of design: flattened and geometric surfaces.

Doing some really good work here! I've finally draw their body, along with some useless information I wanted to put together:

I think I will have to make their arms a bit longer. smiley: mrgreen

Guys, basing on my drawing that I updated on the main post (just scroll up so see it) do you have any ideas for me to design more ships with that kind of style?

As long as they have a mod, they will succeed :P

Indeed. But unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to do a mod for it. I'm terrible at programing, 3D modeling and art making (portraits and everything).

The only thing I would be able to do would be creating the general concepts of the faction affinity, traits, balance and overall look (I could just imagine the body of the aliens of the faction, but I wouldn't be able to draw them).

Okay, I'll move it, but outside of any community faction design contest (and we had only one of those, so far...) I very much doubt that any petition to include another faction will have a chance to succeed. smiley: wink

Otherwise I'd probably be writing about my old Fal'Hadei entry nonstop. XD

Do you guys think that this thread should go to the game design discussion so that it could receive proper attention?

Good point. I'll fix it.

Ok, worked on my idea for their affinity. You can see it in the main post of this thread (the first one, with pictures and everything), but I will put my initial ideas for it here anyway:

Since the Leralons use their excellent scientific potential to develop weapons, I decided that, in-game, when you increase your research points (building scientific planet exploitations and improvements) you will also be increasing your invasion power (+smiley: science = +smiley: stickouttongueowersmiley: smile.

For the traits, what about black thumbs and spendthrifts? I mean they will have to use lots of ressources for researching deadly weapons, building them into their ships and using them. smiley: smile That leaves less money and less ressources to grow food.

Do you already have an idea for their affinity?

I agree with you. They would use the majority of their resources for research and weapons development. This would, indeed, leave less resources for food production.

I still have to think about their affinity. I will edit the main post of this thread and put their affinity concepts there when I decide it.

Well, maybe I can use Rhino. Is it easier than 3D Max? If it is, could put a download link?

Well it is in part because you can't really guess what you would see in the universe that is intelligent. Could us humans being the smartest mammal on Earth an accident? Or is it because our physiology is the only one that can advance to our levels...

Well you shouldn't say same as humans, the scientific term is Humanoid smiley: wink

I know, I just said "human" because humanoids could have some significant difference from humans. From what I know, humanoids are beings with two legs, two arms and one head. But their face could be very different. That's why I used "humans", because the aliens in Star Trek look exactly like humans.

So, Star Trek Syndrome is when every alien look exactly the same as humans, having only some minor facial differences? If thats the case, then it is exactly because of this I'm designing the Leralons like tripods - because I want them to be different from the standard humanoid aliens.
