Amplified 22: Pushing Far

Amplified 2022 is in full swing, and today is dedicated to Humankind. In the midst of our anniversary celebration, we’re bringing you news about the present, a glimpse of the future, and a blast from the past.

Perhaps the biggest news is that the first DLC for Humankind, Cultures of Africa, releases today. If you want to know more about this DLC, check out the announcement blog and the focus videos on youtube.

Just as importantly, we are releasing the Allen Newell Patch today. This patch focuses primarily on military AI improvements, in particular regarding culture and civics choices, sieges, bombardment, and strategic planning. Of course, it also includes various bugfixes, for example to nuclear weapons. In addition, the modding tools will receive an update to fix various bugs and ensure compatibility.

But what’s in store in the future? How far will WE push Humankind? While we can’t reveal all of our plans yet, we have prepared a little overview of what we have been up to since release and what we plan to tackle in the coming months:

In more immediate news, we have prepared a special Amplified map for Humankind with the help of Map Creation Contest finalist Onesama, available now through Mod.io. While this map is designed for an interesting four player multiplayer experience, we know many of you prefer to enjoy Humankind in single player, so we want to issue a challenge to all of you: Pushing Humankind Too Far. Playing on this map, what is the fastest you can render the world uninhabitable through pollution? Share a screenshot of your results in the challenge thread, or on Twitter with the #ampmap22 tag (and be sure to mention what speed you played on!)

If you’re not into challenges like his, why not spice up your desktop or phone with new wallpapers? The art for all six new cultures as well as the main artwork for the Cultures of Africa DLC are now available in various formats in the Games2Gether rewards section.

Finally, if you want to celebrate Amplified and Humankind with a touch of humor, we got you covered: Just for the duration of Amplified, we’ve brought back the What If Meme Generator, with brand new assets courtesy of Chapel Comic. We can’t wait to see what you put together with it!

That’s it for Humankind news for now, but if you're a fan of the Endless universe, come back tomorrow for more!

You're right, I came here because I too wanted to voice my support for Amplitude and the work they are doing, and this thread is full of negative energy.

I agree with some others that religion is a little light at the moment, and some modders have done some interesting things with adding downsides to some tenets to make the decisions more interesting, but I find it harsh to say the core mechanics are shallow or repetitive, or to capstone it with a call back to Civ 6. Which, if we recall, took years to implement things like world congress of pollution mechanisms.

Amplitude is keeping up the incredible work on this incredible game, and I'm excited to play with the African Cultures expansion and see what interesting combinations I can find, and I look forward to new and developing mechanisms as well as future culture expansions, and both official and unofficial mods.

Yeyyy, more Africa, the content everyone was asking for! LULmankind at its best. Now off we go to some truly amazing content in the Endless Universe section

I quite enjoy the Africa Content thus far.

The DLC content may be good, my point is that everyone was hoping they will fix the main game and put it at least to trail their very good and appreciated 4x Endless games, not to leave it to be by far the worst 4x they ever made. Instead they try just to milk more money with DLC

Right now LULmankind is a watered down, simplistic units stats, bad AI, almost no story, mixed Steam reviewed, mobile like 4x game compared to their great Endless 4x games that have amazing atmosphere, great storytelling, customizable units with complex stats, well done strategy and tactics. I am hopeful for another classic well made Endless Legend 2 game in the future to bring back the hype and the Very Positive reviews back on Steam

Welp back to Civ 6. Maybe next year the game will be good.

Have to agree with this, pollution needs to have some effect on the map, the map is dull so far (especially the water), I was expecting you to add weather and geologic processes to make it more dynamic. The religion frankly is boring in civ6 as well, so its a tie there. Diplomacy is a big issue, there are too few options to interact with empires, it quickly becomes boring. I would also add to this “no fixing of crappy AI (I’ve never seen the AI on water do anything and it loses wars pretty easily), balance far from ready, terrain seems a bit inconsequential, the tech tree contains usless stuff… thr game requires a major rework and if the devs don’t do it, HK will die off. Just look at the active player count. Nonethless, I really hope this game succeeds, and over time maybe all these things get fixed and HK reaches new heights :).

I think it is the right decision to clear up the possible mess, that happend because of the slightly rushed launch. For short term i think it will stay interesting and good to see small things improving(like bug fixing, small ui imporvements etc.). However for midterm i wished for better diplomacy because the most depressing thing was when allied partners cant enter one battle, or even war(well you get a grievence but thats very uncool, and even if you declare war its two seperated wars with different wargoals). Longterm id like to see something simmular to the federations like in stellaris that would be awesome:) Keep it up and and take your time and dont give up to make humankind live up to its potential!

I wanted Humankind to be amazing, and had faith that it would be an amazing game based off of their previous titles which were interesting and innovative. I'm not here to be negative for the sake of being negative, I genuinely want this game to be amazing, but it isn't.

Once again, this argument that people who think that the game is unfinished are incorrect because they're viewing it against a game that has had an entire post release cycle is disingenuous. I never mentioned Civ VI, you did, I had my hopes based off of what I knew about Endless Legend and Endless Space 2, not on the Civ series.

I want this game to be incredible, to bring some of that interesting game design that they were so good at with the Endless series, but it isn't and this announcement of what they intend to be doing for the next several months are not redeeming of that for me personally.

This isn't an echo chamber... Or at least it shouldn't be.

I didn't intend to attack, and especially not anyone in specific, multiple people leveled criticism, and one of them did mention Civ 6. I don't even think all the criticism is unfounded.

I'm certain Humankind is going to improve with deeper systems, and with any luck we'll get more espionage and a world council. I can see, however, that we differ in opinion on what currently exists, and that's fine. I just can't imagine reading some of the comments in this thread and coming out of it feeling like the commenters have hope for a better game, but rather that they think everything all the people at Amplitude have been doing is for naught.

I know that it's not what you intend, but it is what comes across.

since when is it wrong to share one's thoughts? I love this game, but I see the issues with it and will call it as it is. You saying it is just "condescending negativity" miss the entire point of what I'm saying. This is criticism, not hate.

I 100% agree with this statement. The only core feature that is truly in a great state is the combat. Everything else is lackluster or unbalanced. To enjoy the game, you MUST play with mods, and there is little exception to that. This game needs a lot more work before I decide to put anymore money or time into it.

Honestly this is disappointing. You can't solve Humankinds problems by cramming more content into it Amplitude...

The core mechanics are shallow and repetitive, adding more cultures isn't going to fix that, it'll just make all the current cultures even more irrelevant as the "differences" will start to blend with other cultures... The games feature set isn't deep enough for more cultures to play off of.

Additionally... The Challenge system was boring... I'd be interesting to know how many players did it because they were actually interested in it compared to how many players did it just to get the reward at the end. A system of scenarios that told pivotal moments in history through gameplay would have been so much more interesting and welcomed.

Looking forward to the upcoming Immersive Empire names the most. This might help with the hodgepodge of flipping cultures feeling confusing at times.

(Ex: Enemy at war with goes from Zulu to Brazilians, may confuse players)
