Many players have told us that they see great potential in Humankind, that the game offers a great foundation to add not just more content but new systems to explore aspects like diplomacy or religion in greater depth. We’re happy to announce that we’ve been working on Together We Rule, the first expansion for Humankind! Aiming to expand your diplomatic gameplay, this expansion will include:

  • Agents: A new class of units that can serve as diplomats or hidden agents; they can act on enemy cities or collect...
  • Leverage: A new resource that can be used for various diplomatic actions
  • Embassies: Form stronger ties with other empires and access cooperative treaties, like mutual access to Emblematic Units
  • Congress of Humankind: Vote on globally enacted laws and resolve conflicts through diplomatic pressure
  • New Cultures and Affinity: Sumerians, Han, Bulgarians, Swiss, Scots, and Singaporeans, sharing the new Diplomatic Affinity
  • New Content: Natural Wonders, Cultural Wonders, and Narrative Events

Together We Rule will be released in Fall 2022, and will be accompanied by a free Update to the base game including the following main features:

  • Third party Reinforcements: Lend control of your armies to an ally for a battle
  • Reworked Stealth System: Based on depleting a “reserve” of stealth rather than a binary yes/no check
  • Improved Independent People: Stronger competition for patronage and more detailed treaties

We’ll be talking in greater detail about the features of the Update and the Together We Rule expansion in the coming weeks, so stay tuned if you want to learn more!

What a lovely list of cultures, I'm so excited to see Switzerland added to the roster especially (very happy about Singapore, as I wanted Malaysia and I can make do happily)!

Leverage sounds interesting, diplomacy becoming more complex in the ways you've tried to introduce would probably best be served with a resource other than War Support, and 'leverage' as a term feels perfect for a word that both encapsulates friendly interaction and underhanded subjugation, a la blackmail and exploitation.

Embassies sound fascinating, 'mutual access to Emblematic Units' honestly has my mind reeling at the possibilities of combinations to begin with, I'm imagining how their traits would interact if you were to plan out playing together from the start. Sounds like a challenging aspect to balance, but ultimately a very rewarding addition.

A 'World Congress' equivalent is something I'm sure many players have wanted to see added, and with the rework/focus on Stealth gameplay, it feels like a natural (if not necessarily explicit) 'Favours' system will be involved using Leverage, should make different forms of play very interesting, and it makes me feel the need to ask if we'll see more complex Persona AI to compensate for all of these additions. I worry that expansion pack/non-expansion pack players may clash if Personas become more complex with new systems, but I'd still like to see more added to the AI choices (and I can't resist mentioning that, yes, I still would very much like to wear glasses when possible).

Still wishing we'd see players able to take on battles with more than two contestants, as the 'third party reinforcements' system seems to be borrowing, rather than multiple players acting in the same battle, but I also appreciate how infinitely more complex such a battle system would become, and I'm happy that any option exists to contribute to my friend's wars to begin with, in this way.

I'm assuming the 'depleting reserve' in terms of stealth will, effectively, function like the trespassing system with health we have currently, but with being revealed being the result of running out, rather than a unit dying. I'm working how this kind of system will play into Ransacking, and whether territories with luxury/strategic resources on a far edge will become less appealing. Perhaps this kind of system would also be more punishing for a city with many territories attached, as it'd have to divide focus? Maybe a building that functions as a bottleneck for spies could be built? Perhaps Stability being low makes the drain less rapid? I'm excited to see what this new system brings!

All in all, looks amazing! I'm wondering what kind of price it'll launch at, but the DLC so far has been very reasonable, in my opinion, for the great content on offer. I do wonder, also, if I'll be able to play it with friends who don't have the expansion pack, as long as I host (I hope so, as this would really help more people access it and want to get it, too!).

I can't wait to get started!

I am surprised Amplitude passed on the opportunity to portray pre-dynastic Sumer in the culture card released Monday. While there is a link to the Diplomatic affinity via the envoy/ruler dynamic, I wonder whether an early urban scene would not be more fitting--boundary demarcation, bureaucracy, early colonization. Of course, part of this goes back to how Amplitude is interpreting diplomacy in this expansion.

That would be pretty optimistic given we haven't heard much yet.

I'm going to follow the schedule of having a new culture reveal each week. Since it started this week and 6 weeks in total. I'm going to guess the launch will be end of Nov.

If I'm not mistaken the studio also has to contend with console launches in early Nov. and if I was in their shoes I would have had the console launch on the roadmap first so it would be the first thing to deliver ahead of the expansion

Aw... I was hoping the expansion was October, but you're right, it could just be the next blog post.

I think it will be released when scenario three ends. Which would be 18 October. Tomorrow new blog about free update and hopefully a beta. Next week another blog post and then in the following week update time.

They talk about next blog post.

For me, given how it looks, the update could occur at the end of November, or in December. (Fall doesn't end until December 20 ^^ )

We can not give you specific dates :(
Will be on October, thats the most i can say

Even "October" is good to know, thanks!  When it was announced as "Fall 2022", I looked at my calendar and told myself "September 21st is Fall 2022".  So knowing that it's not this week, but also not as far as November or December, that's exciting!

That is incredible. I've been waiting for an update or expansion like this for a long time. I always wondered, why isn't there a world congress like the UN and spies? why are diplomatic options so scarce and boring? I hope all this will be resolved with time, I am waiting impatiently.

Frankly speaking, there is still a fundamental difference between incorporating an ally's unit into command and actually joining the battlefield as a third party.

I agree. I hope more player fighting in the same battlefield

Yes, this is the common vision of the players for a long time, players prefer to have multiple games in the battlefield

Any plans to add a ship canal system? I can’t find anything about it on the web and the answers I found make it seem like there is no ship canals to create shortcuts through a single land tile. I’m looking for a Panama/suez canal passage. Is it possible that I am overlooking how to build a shipping canal? It’s very annoying to have to send my ships all the way around land masses when a simple “one tile canal” can be built.

Ah, I misunderstood your question then. Yes, agents are available to all cultures, no need to be diplomatic or have any treaties with a diplomatic affinity. Can't exactly play Spy vs. Spy if only one side can gets spies, after all.

Do you mean no access through Emblematic units or no access at all, as in that it's locked to Diplomatic Affinity?

I wait to see, next weeks, how will be implemented Embassies, but since this treaty is link to this building in the description and this building is part of te DLC, I guess we won't have access to the treaty without the DLC

Yes, that's correct. The agents interact directly with the leverage system, as do the embassies and diplomatic affinity. Basically, most things listed in the DLC features rather than the update features are a big tangled package.
