Many players have told us that they see great potential in Humankind, that the game offers a great foundation to add not just more content but new systems to explore aspects like diplomacy or religion in greater depth. We’re happy to announce that we’ve been working on Together We Rule, the first expansion for Humankind! Aiming to expand your diplomatic gameplay, this expansion will include:

  • Agents: A new class of units that can serve as diplomats or hidden agents; they can act on enemy cities or collect...
  • Leverage: A new resource that can be used for various diplomatic actions
  • Embassies: Form stronger ties with other empires and access cooperative treaties, like mutual access to Emblematic Units
  • Congress of Humankind: Vote on globally enacted laws and resolve conflicts through diplomatic pressure
  • New Cultures and Affinity: Sumerians, Han, Bulgarians, Swiss, Scots, and Singaporeans, sharing the new Diplomatic Affinity
  • New Content: Natural Wonders, Cultural Wonders, and Narrative Events

Together We Rule will be released in Fall 2022, and will be accompanied by a free Update to the base game including the following main features:

  • Third party Reinforcements: Lend control of your armies to an ally for a battle
  • Reworked Stealth System: Based on depleting a “reserve” of stealth rather than a binary yes/no check
  • Improved Independent People: Stronger competition for patronage and more detailed treaties

We’ll be talking in greater detail about the features of the Update and the Together We Rule expansion in the coming weeks, so stay tuned if you want to learn more!

Do you mean no access through Emblematic units or no access at all, as in that it's locked to Diplomatic Affinity?

And if the Saboteur will be reworked so it can actually sabotage stuff as its name implies? :)

No, the Agent class is exclusive to the DLC (as it interacts with new features), so vanilla cultures will not have access to it. However, the old stealth units will be adapted to account for the new stealth system.

Without seeing any detail on how the mechanics will work, I'm not yet convinced that another currency was the best way to do it.

It's a DLC, i.e. optional content. IMO, it's better for it to have its own currency, rather than trying to balance existing one in a way that it works well with and without the DLC, especially if it's supposed to be a major feature.

I hadn't thought of that and it's a good point. While it will be a pity to lose the opportunity to streamline, it does sound horribly complex to balance the economy separately with and without the expansion pack.

I hope it will be just as useless as United Nations for added realism.

Can I get a whoop whoop for Lucy?  Also, the Very Hungry Narrator is back.  I wonder if him being hired on for the trailer's voicework means new voicework for new cultures.

Also, spotted in the promotional screenshots: Pamukkale.

Like others, I'm a bit worried about DLC-centric affinity, as it won't be necessarily a main-game-thing, if that makes sense, but I am incredibly hyped about this.

And yeah, the DLC sounds cool, but the update sounds extra tasty.

EDIT: and whoop whoop, Lucy's back!

This looks great! But uh, are the cultures in order of era they’re supposed to appear in? It looks like it based on how the list is organized in which case Scots being in the Industrial era would be weird since they were part of the British Empire, EM is perfect for Scots and Ind for Switzerland which is the era when it actually became known for its neutrality and diplomacy.

Agreed, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they're implemented.  My guess is that Swiss were chosen for the Era IV for the iconic "Swiss Pikemen", which could replace Halberdiers.  But we'll see.

The DLC looks exciting, but honestly I'm so excited to see these three core mechanics, especially more depth with Independent People!

other than that I’m excited and definitely want to see both, but…those two are wrong eras for what makes sense based on history

If the Leverage resource is introduced in this DLC, does that mean no future DLC cultures can be made that will have unique interactions with Leveage? Are these six Diplomatic affinity cultures the only ones that will ever be released?

A shared thought.
The rest however seems good or great.

I hope this actualy makes your stealth units invisible to your enemys.

Since in multiplayer u will have shared allys so atm, they can just see all your stealth units inside and outside of combat

not only in multplayer, in single player too

My own experience in single player is that stealth works, but the effective area for it is already quite limited by the time stealth units come available, as it only really works if you're not in a sphere of vision. Generally, that means never moving into the tile directly next to an enemy unit, and not moving within 2 tiles of a city/district/outpost, but sometimes more/less depending on opponent infras, wonders, civics, etc.

Soft power, hells yeah. Good work.

Curious about what the IP rework will look like. The fact that, in the best case scenario, they all vanish, kinda hamstrings the mechanic. I'd like a version where it's profitable (and possible) to keep them around all game, including preventing anybody else from assimilating them (via culture sphere maybe?)

Is Leverage going to get a star, making it 8 categories instead of 7? Or is the Diplomatic affinity going to break the linkage between affinities and stars?

Very excited for embassies. I would also like to note that this would make premade teams an even nicer feature; now that alliances are more powerful, it would be nicer for humans comp-stomping together to guarantee that their enemies are getting the same benefits.
