I think the trailer shows 1 UPT. Not sure how well you can design the AI around 1UPT (Civ 6 still has bad AI, improved to some extent with mods).

Its more like Endless Legend units are formed into armies that appear as one unit on the map then they engage another army and all the units are deployed in a tactical map drawn on top of the terrain.

If combat is like EL it's kind of moot.   I'm ok with an upgraded EL combat style as long as we have more control.

EL had fantastic combat foundation with the way the stacks would unfold into terrain and you got to do a little turn-based minigame. Its most glaring problems were lack of fine control and slow speed- it was often much easier to just autoresolve everything because a well-prepared army steamrolls anyway.

In case you didn't know, you can adjust the combat speed in the advanced settings in the main menu (before you start a new game).

To clear things out, your armies are represented by 1 unit on the map. But when you engage in combat, all the units contained in both armies deploy on the map.

It is similar to Endless Legend in that regard. BUT this time we are going full tactical!! We'll reveal more about battles in time :)

Great news!!! The civs series combat has become so tedius and boring. This sounds promesing!

Please no pre-turn order, it's the only thing I dislike about EL. Let us give direct orders to units and it's gonna be amazing.

Devs said players will have a full control over units in battle at recent stream.

EL's combat was fine, it just needed a few tweak to give us more control

It really seems like it's going  to be a combat system like EL has, it's good news as we already know it won't be just a click like Civ's combat. Amplitude already knows the cons of EL's combat system so I guess it is safe to expect something better.

Very good thing of EL's folding armies to be in Humankind too, it's too practical to not use.

Full tactical, you say? This does sound intriguing.

+1. Maybe mix in a few cards from ES1?

How this will work with spearmen fighting modern infantry, etc will be interesting. The abstract Civ way hides the silly a bit.
