Clearly, the main trait of Expansionist factions will be that they play "Together to the Stars" as their soundtrack...

I guess that would boost approval.

I guess expansionists just grow their borders quicker, warmongers go out there specifically to deck someone. Taking the land vs. taking the land from someone.

I thought this game has predefined regions that you can claim,.... so no border growth.

I'm noticing a lot of cultures seem to have special fortresses. This implies they will be important to the military in some fasion. Do they just function like the military districts in Civ 6, or is the battle system different enough to make them important targets?

The high number of emblematic fortresses in the bronze era makes me wonder if the emblematic quarters for each era have a different specialization, while the EQs that don't fit the mold - pyramids, irrigation canals - function more as improvements. This is assuming quarters are similar to districts in civ 6, but if there are multiple options for, say, emblematic military quarters or emblematic markets in different eras, then you would be left with either two of the same quarter (two markets in one city), or different quarters with similar functions (Assyrian military quarter in one city, Roman military quarter in other) in different cities. But if each era the EQs had a different focus (bronze era is military quarters, renaissance is market, medieval is culture) then there would be no overlap of quarters. This is pure speculation and is mostly based on civ 6 mechanics though.

I usually don't mind "larger-than-life" units on the map, but even for me, this is a bit much. Something like half that size would still look perfectly fine and visible.

So far the Babylonians, Harappans, Olmecs and possibly Nubians all seem like interesting potential starting cultures to me. I'm also curious what "Aesthete" cultures will be able to do. Do you think they might specialize in culture/influence/ or even renown? Either could be incredibly useful.

Look at this image:

Seems like:

1st is Science

2nd is Culture

3rd is Diplomacy

And for Science and Culture there are some blue and green points are accumulating. Blue are for Technologies, for sure. And green - either for Culture Technologies (like in Civ 6) or for Social institutes (like in Civ 5).

So I think, Olmecs are specialized to boost Culture points in some way. If they were boosting Influence , then they would be called "Diplomats" or something similar.

My prediction is that the Zhou Dynasty for ancient China will be diplomats given their careful political maneuvering during the spring and autumn period. But if that is true, I wonder what resource would control culture? I think it could still be influence, where the second circle is like an internal policy thing similar to the EL empire plan or Civ V culture trees where you spend influence on yourself, while the third circle is diplomacy and you spend influence to interact with others. No real evidence for that though.

From the DevDiary video, 1:48. I'm guessing this is the tech or possibly civic tree? I wonder, do you research the tech to unlock all of the new improvements and units, or do you have to make a choice of which new benefit you want (ie, pick cog OR pick fishmarket)?
