Hello All! Since I have nothing but time to sit and ponder this wonderful game, one nugget got stuck in my mind; How will our nations be named? Will it be as straightforward as Culture=Nation Name (i.e. Egyption culture=Egypt). Or possibly a fun imalgimation, reflecting the blending of cultures (United Germanic States of Egypt). Or perhaps something completely different. Just the fun musings of a fan who, may or may not, be chomping at the bit for a release date.

That's a good question. I could honestly be any of these or a combination thereof. Unless I'm mistaken, we know that our nations' previous cultures will continue to affect it's aesthetics , but I could also see the possibility of being able to name your nation once you reach a certain milestone. This would definetly be good to know and I hope the devs will answer the question sooner rather than later.

We also know there are various sliders/traits that identify ones nation and their choices, such as tradition/progress, collectivism/individualism, World/homeland, etc. Potentially if the name is auto-generated, the name could change overtime. Depending on your policies/choices/events, maybe in one age you are known as Blah Empire, and the next through changes you are now the Republic of Blah. We have very minimal information on these mechanics effects in the game besides a few example events, but this could potentially be one way as well.

This seems like an interesting concept, as the possibilities with so many different traits could really improve one's immersion in tha world of Humankind.

Maybe we could choose a combo of 'parts' of names in a order of choice, similar to how I looked through my choices here on the Forums & eventually decided that "Amateur Lord" sounded funny & lighthearted. The Devs could well already be deciding to go this Route as we speak seems how it works on these Forums so well. ;)

Ya know I hadn't even thought of that. But the more that I think about it the more that I like it.

I hope I'm understanding this correctly: In the DevBlog that was posted on Steam, it says that the game "Humankind" starts you out as the Egyptians. I hope this is not true. A player with a brand new game that this game represents should be able to pick the civilzation that they want to play. NOT the civilization YOU (Amplitude) want them to play from the get-go! That is just wrong in my book. For example, if my strategy was to play a peace loving civilization say the Indians (From India, duh not Cowboys and Indians!), for the most part peaceful, then as a new player I would not want to be forced to play the militarily-bent civilization such as Egypt.

Sorry, but there definately is a misunderstanding there. The Devs have been pretty clear you start as nomadic, and then choose one of 10 Bronze age cultures. I watched the video again just to try where you could have seen what you said, and I don't see it. They even have the screen shows the carousel picking that first culture, where it was first hovered over Egyptians, maybe that is where you are gettting that from?

Plus, Egypt has been shown to be labeled as a production culture in this game, not military focused ;)
