Hello everyone,

While the hype is getting bigger and higher, as OpenDev is soon coming up and the weekly release of the 33 remaining Civs/Cultures, I'm starting to think about and plan my future games with Humankind. Though it will surely change, based on the release of the remaining Civs/Cultures, I already have quite a few wishes.

Right now, I'm planning to play several different games, should it be historically accurate (as much as possible, given the constraints of the game), uchronic or completely built up/random.

  1. The historically accurate path :
    • "French motherland" (being my homeland) : The Mycenaeans [Ancient Era] > The Celts [Classical Era] > The Franks [Medieval Era] > The French (tbc) [Early Modern Era] > The French (tbc) [Industrial Era] > The French (tbc) [Contemporary Era]
    • "Mexican dream" (historically being my dream homeland) : The Olmecs [Ancient Era] > The Maya [Classical Era] > The Spanish (tbc) The Maya [Medieval Era] > The Spanish (tbc) [Early Modern Era] > The Spanish/Mexicans (tbc) [Industrial Era] > The Spanish/Mexicans (tbc) [Contemporary Era]
    • "Tenochtitlan - Mexico " : The Olmecs [Ancient Era] > The Olmecs [Classical Era] > The Aztecs [Medieval Era] > The Spanish (tbc) [Early Modern Era] > The Spanish/Mexicans (tbc) [Industrial Era] > The Spanish/Mexicans (tbc) [Contemporary Era]
  2. The uchronical (a.k.a "What if ...") path :
    • "Vercingetorix never gave up" : The Mycenaeans [Ancient Era] > The Celts [Classical Era] >The Celts [Medieval Era] > The Celts [Early Modern Era] > The Celts [Industrial Era] > The Celts [Contemporary Era]
    • "New World Conquest never happened" : The Olmecs [Ancient Era] > The Maya [Classical Era] > The Maya [Medieval Era] > The Maya [Early Modern Era] > The Maya [Industrial Era] > The Maya [Contemporary Era]
    • "The eagle, the snake and the cactus" : The Olmecs [Ancient Era] > The Olmecs [Classical Era] > The Aztecs [Medieval Era] > The Aztecs [Early Modern Era] > The Aztecs [Industrial Era] > The Aztecs [Contemporary Era]
  3. The built up path : that one's pretty tricky, since we don't know yet all the 60 Civs/Cultures and their respective traits, EU/EQ and bonuses, but I'll go with my gameplay style
    • "The great medley" : The Babylonians [Ancient Era] > The Maya [Classical Era] > The English [Medieval Era] > ?? [Early Modern Era] > ?? [Industrial Era] > ?? [Contemporary Era]
    • The "Should I stay or should I go ?" motto : The Egyptians [Ancient Era] > The Romans [Classical Era] > The Teutons/Khmers [Medieval Era] > ?? [Early Modern Era] > ?? [Industrial Era] > ?? [Contemporary Era]

I know there are several threads on Reddit or Twitter (as far as I know) about the subject, but I thought that would be a good thing to have a similar thread here. So, what do you guys have planned already ?

Personally i'm planning on going for a carthaginian run, super trade focused. Although there are so many possibilites that i can't say i'm set on the idea. Perhaps with some teuton thrown in, as the calvary looks amazing.

I agree, they look mighty strong !

I was actually thinking of another built up one, alterning between builders and expansionists civs, and Teutons fit quite perfectly there :

The "Should I stay or should I go ?" motto : The Egyptians [Ancient Era] > The Romans [Classical Era] > The Teutons/Khmers [Medieval Era] > ?? [Early Modern Era] > ?? [Industrial Era] > ?? [Contemporary Era]

I wonder if I can start as China & Buddhist monks and go that route ??‍♂️

Sorry to dash your hopes, China as a playable culture hasn't been revealed yet (but is quite likely to be revealed in the next 3 eras).

You could start as Zhou, then Huns, then Mongols from the cultures revealed so far. Or transcend Zhou culture each new era untill you'll be able to switch to China ;)

I think the point is to adapt to your surroundings however with the long nilithic phase you could probably choose those sourounding fairly freely, if my start allows it id like to go pheoncia -> carthago -> byzantine where i built some costal cities then have strategical regions around it only for resources choosing not to built cities there or include it into a existing city.
