Will there exists several continents in the game? and maybe one hard to reach until a certain period that has mostly been left untouched and is only inhabited by city states for people to expoler and colonize?
Or will people start sort of say evenly spread out on the map?
Or like will people have science buff for interacting with other players meaning that one or 2 players on a far off continent gets left behind and then have to survive others colinization attepts until they caught upp ?

I'm hoping that the neutral independent factions can fill this role. We know for sure that early game there will be independent city states. I'm hopeing that those leech technology from nearby players, so if there are some on a continent with no players they stay neolithic / ancient. I'm also hoping that as the game goes by they can merge with or conquer each other to form minor states. Additionally I think that instead of "evil barbarians" which just appear in the fog of war, that there should be proper neutral nomad factions which you can piss off by building on their land turning, them against you.

It's a 4X, you colonize territories, tiles, IA factions (minor and major), .... There is no "period". Surely a choice of maps with multiple Islands/Continents.

The Colonial era IRL had several prerequisites:

1. Technological advances enabled Europeans to reach distant locations and subdue native resistance (Compass, Shipbuilding, Gunpowder and Horses).

2. Social Organization allowed Europeans to regularly and successfully mount these expeditions (Nation States, Joint Stock Companies)

3. Social attitudes permitted the colonization of already settled land (ideas of primitive savages, religious/social dominance)

4. Native attitudes did not lead to the technological and social achievements necessary to resist European colonization

Amplitude could artificially make scenarios or settings where there is a remote and unadvanced culture, but I don't know how satisfying that would be.

This is a very interesting idea.

Seems like an interesting idea, however, it would be more interesting if the existing civic and ideology system can be used to implement possible alternative scenarios, such as a Chinese colonization of America or a Arabic south america. It could also allow for the Exploration and events in the midgame, which are certainly interesting to allow for a exploration heavy playstyle.
