How far do they plan on taking the future technology/endgame?

Has there been any talks of space colonization technology or extreme sci-fi topics or has everything mentioned so far been about the older eras?  Can we expect some sort of atmosphere layer in the game for satellites, space planes, orbital facilities/weapons etc?

Just how sci-fi are the devs hoping to get with this game in the later stages is what I want to know. Can I except a full on alien contact/invasion or just the run of the mill climate meltdown after all out nuclear war?

I'm not aware that any information regarding this topic had been released. There isn't a future era, at least currently, so either it will only be a few techs at the end of contemporary, or perhaps they could add a future era in a DLC. Sci-fi is pretty cool, but it's hard to fit it into a game like this. If there was a future era, what would the cultures be? Do we imagine revolutions or declarations of independence that haven't happened? Or just repeat the current super powers, assuming that there will be few shifts in borders or the geographic distribution of power? It pretty quickly becomes not only technological speculation but also anything else the game has a mechanic for. What are the civics and laws of the future? Veganism? AI rights? Globalist abolition of borders? Immortality regulations? We could be on the verge of a radically different society and it's hard to know how it's all going to pan out.

I sugguest you use the forum's "search" feature instead of creating new threads, as this topic has been raised before in This Post.

Topics on future technology and "space layers" have been covered before, although the Devs have not replied with clarifying information.

This would certainly make the game interesting though, as i doubt any other historical 4X has done a good job of a "futuristic"/Space  layer(since activisions call to power). Would certainly be interesting to see it in, though.

They once stated that the technology level is going to go up to ~2030-2040.

I hope this game does what Civ: CtP did for me as a child. The futuristic age and the length of games was always amazing. Building space ladders and using the "Space layer" as an extra way to move around. Under water cities, the works! No other Civ or 4x game has captured my imagination like CtP did.

Lets hope Humankind does just that.

It would be great to see more detailed tech tree then just "nano something".

Some possible options:

1. Durable coatings. Oxydation, salt water resistance increases, lowering maintenance costs of all units and buildings, but raises future construction costs.  It would be great to repaint a bridge every 25 years, not every 5. If anybody thinks this isnt a big deal, take a look under any car older than 10 years.

2. High capacity batteries. Cellphone charge lasts the lifetime of the phone, for example. Wouldnt that be neat. Benefits scale down with more energy intensive applications, like personal space crafts. Those can just use micro generators.

3. Micro generators. Great for power armour or your own personal space craft. Just needs one hell of an air traffic control.

4. Data integration. Internet of things has benifited from a robust indexing system that can differantiate false, redundant, true or relevant inputs. Its even hard to tell that it knows its doing it too.

5. Artificial Intelegance relations.  Possible civics branches that permit, limit, or outlaw "true" AI.  A can of worms that deserves its own thread.
