Not yet, in the last Dev stream they said that along with other tweaks for creating a game, they are planning to improve how you select the AI and include random opponents.

Seems like a good workaround for now is to download some personalities without looking at them and pop them into your new game.  That'll be random, although it'll take a few extra minutes.

Just to clarify, do you want random opponent from your persona collection (persona preset, persona from twitch and persona from the G2G), or do you want totally random opponent from nowhere ?

Just from my collection, please.

Any change from the present awkward system would be welcome. Now, every time I try to change an opposition avatar during setup, I set in motion a cycle of avatars that keep repeating themselves, but in different positions in the avatar opponent gallery.

Ah, I had that problem too.  Turns out that when you click on options on an AI opponent, you can change a bunch of stuff.  One of those allows you to look at all the pictures/names and pick the one you want.  So you avoid cycling changing the picks you already made.

For me, just random opponents from the current collection would be fine. Although thinking about it... completely randomized, auto-generated opponents is an interesting idea. Something like the factions generated in Stellaris? That could be fun, as long as we didn't get too many completely  non-viable combinations.

Either way (or both as alternatives) would be good to avoid knowing who and what I'll be facing in a new game.

If the personas should be viable and not gimped themselves, they may as well cook up a bunch more AI personas and patch them in. Then do the randomizing only on your collection. Maybe with the added tweak that you can decide the number of Normal, Advanced or Expert AI.

Given that my collection will not load, regardless of any and all steps I've taken, I'd prefer the traits of the default AI's be randomized.

Both options would be great actually ! ;)

And yes, as already said above, an option to lock an AI's selection, so that it won't change when cycling around AIs in another slot.

Thanks !

Both would be fine. And I'd probably prefer the second one as I don't want to spend time finding the correct personas to build my collection.

I would say random from the local collection first. And much later on, somehow integrate the persona web page into the game to easily "build" our local collection.

Thanks !

You are able to specifically choose one by name/picture. No need to use the arrows. They also need to beef up that window though.

- highlighting what personas are already chosen for the game

- give some sorting options or divide them into their difficulty rating in the list, because you still have to click each one to see what they do

Yup, I'm well aware, that's the easiest workaround to pick the desired opponent in each slot so far.

The cycling selection feature is a cool option, for setting up a game quickly, or if you don't want to bother loading the AI selection panel for each slot. I'm sure Devs can come up with something to prevent switching personas when cycling.

I second your sorting suggestion as well, I've basically made the same suggestion in the "Improve QoL" thread. +1

If I could have only one ASAP, it would definitely be the former.

I agee. I would like to just pick the number of opponents. I want it hidden from me so it will be a surprise during the game.

Given the limits to the Persona collection -- and the effective limit being MUCH lower than 50 or they fail to load at all -- I would prefer it randomly generates opponents than randomly select from a fixed set. Even with 50 there are more combinations of allowable traits than that.

The lack of random opponent selection is one of the more annoyingly elementary oversights in HK IMO. Seems like it should be obvious, low-hanging fruit. Here's my low-tech workaround...

If I want opponents = n, I enter the opponent selection screen and set it to n+2. Then I start clicking the arrow for the last opponent and physically hold my hand in front of my eyes so that I can't see the opponent list. Click a couple dozen times, then click one of the other menus on the left. Then click the number of opponents down two ticks. This sounds pretty ridiculous but I think it more or less randomizes the opponents. I only use the built-in AI personas so I have no idea how additional personas work.
