Hey guys, the following one is just a consideration of mine, I don't think the devs will ever give it much weight (as it would probably consider an investment of resources currently needed to fix some more urgent issues of HK) and I would just like you to consider this thread as a rhetrorical enquiry on the role of the greek ED, the Amphitheatron.

The first of my doubts rises from the same name of the district: amphitheatron. Etymologically it litterally means "place for viewing around" or "place for viewing on both sides" and architecturally we can recognice this style with the roman Colosseum, the Amphitheatre par excellence. The building shown in game is just a classical open-air theater, called in fact just "théātron" since its shape is semi-circular and not elliptical.

In contrast to the current Greek ED I would suggest the Gymnasium: the school of both civic and military education for young boys in ancient Greece. Probably it fits its role even more as an Emblematic District since, historically talking, it was an essential infrastructure that all important poleis necessarely had to have. For his effects I would keep them mostly similar to the one currently in place in the last version of the amphitheatron. Its role should reflect, as it does now, the importance of Science and Influence for the education of the future citizens of the poleis as well as adding some small military bonus (exs: 1. units trained in a territory with a Gymnasium would gain some xp - 2. militias defending the city are stronger - 3. the buildings offers somewhat Stability source to the city)

Interesting idea, and definitely should help the greeks at being a better Civ. Not that they are bad, specially given that they have a decent Unit, but their emblematic district could use some upgrades.

Either way, I would at least change the name to either "Theatron" or "Open-Air Theater"

Here is a first preview of a possible Gymnasium ED:

  • +1 Influence per Researchers on City or Outpost
  • +1 Science per Researchers on City or Outpost
  • +3 Science per Era
  • +1 Researchers Slot
  • Count as "Research Quarter"

I would also rework the (quite boring) Greek LT to something like: Hellenistic Fusion (+3 Science per Number of Territories in your sphere of influence per Era on Capital) (or just lower the number to 1 and make it "on City or Outpost" instead)

Those are some nice initial ideas. Let's see if amplitude listens to them.
