Hi/Salut !
Does the game will have real geographical / natural changes ???
A mountain which fall due to earthquake or volcano burst (Island of Santorini for example) ?

The explosion of the Krakatau around the XIXth century generate tsunami in Asia >> style of event ?

Forest that grow overtime or burn ?

In CIV IV >> as i remember, sometimes the forest grow and it was useful for the worker to chop them off in order to complete construction.

River that change their path? Maritime space that evolve ?

City of Ur was near the river and today

>>> Player will be forced to convert the natural change with workers.

Maybe it could be great / Maybe it would be too hard to create

Thanks/Merci

I agree that it would be great to implement something like that, because given the time span of the game/simulation it feels the map is too static.

Also, the world should change due to human behavior overtime, like dessertification due to deflorestation.

I would say global warming too, but some people may argue the topic is more political ideology than factual science.

Yes, this is why i point this thing up. A real evolution of climate or just the Earth is important and can be a real gaming experience.

Global warming is a hot topic, indeed. But global changes have precedent : Medieval Warm Period / Little Ice Age...
Those were natural changes, instead of today where the analysis point out the human factor.

Personally me wish to see in the Humankind the following possibilities:

- Global Warming - all coastal tiles are gradually flooded by the ocean, the Earth gradually turns into a desert

- Nuclear winter - the Earth gradually turns into an arctic

- Edem - egological society turns the Earth into a blooming garden

I see the point of reforestation but it will be just men planting trees. What i think is more the nature doing thing bad or wrong by itself ^^
As the global changes that you list : it can be the different ways of the human can changes the Earth.

Thanks for this fantastic topic ! Human is nowaday influencing nature and climate, but Nature had in multiple way influence human culture and history. Tsunami, earthquake, tornados, drought and most of all flood made and destroyed empires. Cultures and religion adapted themeselves to them.

It could realy be great to implement these "disasters" as it would make evolved your style of playnot just against/with other humans, but with nature too.

And then, humankind might be able to change nature, with dams, channels etc. And finaly climat change induced by CO2 (and CH4) production (i.e. petroleum, gas and coal combustion)

In a different way (but still in the "living" nature mood) : Are luxury resources unlimited ? Furs is the excelent exemple of a a ressource that can be unlimited in time with a good population managment, but that can lead to the loss of entire species, hunted to extinction. Will it be possible to decide the way ressources will be exploited ? Like :

* high benefits : ressource stock -x/turn ,  +3x ressource prod

* equilibrium : ressource stock unchanged , +2x ressource prod

* stock replenishment : resource stock +x/turn , +x resource prod

This way, you might want to overexploite somes ressources from time to time, while be carfull not to eradicate a specie.

Well, we do know that one of the natural wonders is Mount Vesuvius, so I'd say it's likely that eruptions at least will happen.

 During a developer talk with Writing Bull and Stefan Kaiser (in German) a similar question (not concerning environmental events but something like terraforming and climate change) was asked, and Kaiser responded that they would like to have a lot of features in the game but can not make any promises right now. I'd like to have sudden events in it, like earthquakes and thunder storms but then you'd have to think about how it could affect the player's jouney, how the civilization and the city are affected and how much of a disadvantage follows a catastrophe.

As long as Amplitude stays true to the SEGA-way (e.g. not getting into international real-life affairs (because SEGA being a traditional company is one reason why I am a fan)), I don't have concerns about the game. So, I think that climate change is not a good thing to have in the game.

Humankind refers to human history, and the environment we live in is part of that too, I am aware of that. But video games are also products of fantasy which you can see in "creating your own civilization". In their core, their world doesn't have anything to do with things that happen in real-life, and Humankind doesn't try to be too realistic, from what I've seen, which is a good thing.

I see your point !
But i talked about the "natural climate changes" such as the coast line that evolve, the forest that grows or burn, mountain that get erode or fail...
Some events : a new water source is discovered !
i don't want to enter into political issue with this topic, i just think that earth does a lot of things by itself and not only with us. Those games (Endless, Civ...) are too statics (No star exploding in endless space ?), Gathering storm in civ 6 tried to make some changes but it is too shy i think...

Hello k100000! To make it more clear to others, are you able to communicate in english? There are many people from all over the world in these forums, and we're completely fine if you have to use google translate to communicate. If not, there are Specific forums for different languages.
