Like my last post this is a ditto of something I posted on Reddit, but you guys are probably more familiar with Amplitude so I'll put it here as well

Hiya.

When I was trying to come up for the effects of some of the resources I suggested in my South American Addendum, I got caught up on how I don't really know how resources will work in Humankind.

I kept thinking of the way civ 6 handles them, its abstract stats like "faith" and "culture" are very good at encapsulating what a resource is/was used for. Plus their three categories of Bonus, Luxury and Strategic resources are clear cut and easy to understand.

How will they work in Humankind? I think I heard on a video that there will be Luxury and Strategic resources, but how will that work exactly? do we know if there will be another kind of resource? and what yields can we expect them to give?

(If any of you have have experience with other Amplitude games that'd be appreciated in particular)

Thank you in advance

If it works any way similar to Endless Space 2, then there will be a small number of key strategic resources required to build/update special units/buildings/ and to update/improve Hero units. I'm not sure that Hero units have been discussed yet.

Best guesses are

Copper - very early game which is then is then replaced by Iron.

Lumber is another likely resources.

Grain or Corn perhaps. Although it's likely there's a simple food mechanic for this.

later on

Coal

Oil

Steel (some combo of Coal/Iron ??).

Without these resources you are limited in what you can build and what you can update.

Luxury resources can provide currency at the MarketPlace or whatever equilavent we are getting for HumanKind. Also, certain Luxury can provide certain

boosts to each culture. Wine for instance might provide a boost in citizen happiness and a boost in Civics.

Gold might product increased money generation and allow for coinage which further increases trade and culture prestige.

There are usually like a dozen or more of them. Collecting 100 diamonds for instance be a goal that helps generate the fame points needed to

advance.

Hmmm, thank you for your answer, could I ask you a few question?

1. What is the marketplace?

2. does your example of 100 diamonds come from something from the endless games?

thank you in advance

In most Endless titles the marketplace was a window that allows you to sell and buy luxuries and strategic ressources for a price that is "mostly" defined by the quantities all players supply the market with.

In Endless Space 2 there's a economy screen that you can bring up. It contains a marketplace where

you can buy and sell strategic goods

and

luxury goods.

Also, you can spend luxury goods to create the ability to uplift territories a level. Each level increase came with a bonus specific to the luxury item used. Providing +30 Food in system for instance or +30 Happiness/Morale. Not sure this level mechanic will be part of HumanKind with the advancement of eras. In Endless Legend, you could "spend" luxury goods to get certain bonuses for a number of turns. Each luxury was mapped to a specific production type ; Food/Industry/Dust (the gold of the Endless series of games)/Science/Infuence, and would provide a bonus towards it like 20% increase in Industry for 20 turns.

In Endless Legend, you could also create or purchase Stored Food/Science/Industry.

I imagine the mechanics will be similar trade is such a huge piece of Humankind development.
