Battles in the game look quite interesting. I think they should get a separate game mode. This can diversify the game experience and/or provide an alternative game mode for those who want to command in battle, but do not want or can not currently play the main game mode. This mode can also be used to learn the combat system or improve the player's skills outside of the main game mode.

Types of battles are suggested when this mode is selected:

  • Prepared battles
  • Historic battle
Prepared battles as done on OpenDev.
  • Custom template

Battle templates that the player saved when customize the battle (see below).

You can also add a function for publishing your own templates and downloading templates from other users.

  • Customizable battles
Here the player can customize the battle parameters as they wish and also save the selected parameters as templates.
The following parameters are offered:
  • Battle mode

The following battle modes are available:

  • Skirmish mod
Armies appear nearby and the player does not have the ability to move armies, which means that he can not change the place of battle and has to adapt to these conditions.
  • Military campaign mode
The armies of the conflicting parties will appear at different ends of the map. The player's task is to impose on the enemy one major battle or several smaller ones on favorable terms and destroy all the enemy's armies.
  • Siege mode
The task of the player, depending on his role (attacking or defending), is to capture the enemy's city or protect his own city.
  • Standoff mode
Each conflicting party in this mode has cities that are equivalent in terms of parameters and can only create combat units. Construction and research are not available in this mode. The player's task is to capture all the enemy cities and not lose their own.
  • Map
Here the player can select a map that has already been prepared or set parameters for generating the map.
  • Conflicting party
Here the player can choose the number of conflicting party and choose the following parameters for them:
  • Color
  • Era
  • Culture (including cultures of previous eras)
  • Role (attacking or defending) - only for Skirmish and Siege mod
  • Armies (number of armies and their composition)

P.S. Sorry for my English. Excuse me if I applied incorrect or inaccurate terms.

This sounds like a very good idea, especially from the angle of practising. The combat system is clearly on the more complicated end so a way to practice without having to commit to a full playthrough would be very good. Or even if not to practice, to try and test out some army combinations or some EUs you haven't used before. And of course just the fun.
