2 things:

  1. Why mortars have so much movement, they need to be carried and look heavy but can just move as much as basic infantry: make them like 2 movement and/or lock their ability to move and shoot in the same round. If they were hand mortars ok why not but its not what's depicted
  2. No minimal range to shoot? (also apply to Trebuchet). For modern mortar yeah it make sense but the one depicted don't seem to be really ajustable
Also I hope we can see both Mortars and Cannon in same era because not same use because of indirect fire

Why mortars dont have splash damage it would end turtling on hills quickly and prevent mortar support for units in close combat.
And trully thise mortars are a heck of a mobile artillery.

Yeah I also wondered about zone damage for them. 1 good point against this is that with minimum 5 damage it would be too powerful, but it could be so base strength is a bit less, and only targeted unit get full damage, the adjacent one getting a special damage that would often be less than 5.

Also a bit weird that siege/artiellery dont get same penalty than shooters for being attacked in melee, artillery should be more effective in offense than defense (the no retaliation part does however play this role and adding both might be too much)

Maybe artillery, at least early one, should get penalty to attack other artilley because from what Napoleon Total War taught me, its hard to shoot others cannons with your cannons, easier to shoot grouped infantry :)

I agree that artilllery should have a really strong malus is melee

It could also be interesting if they could suffer from being in a ZoC, like preventing them to fire with the artilllery (implying that they defend themselves with other weapons)

Yep, I definnitly agree with you

imho though, I think artillery (all era included) should take two thing into account :

- health of target : more life means more troops, hence better odds at killing more units (so more damage against full life units, and less to damaged ones)

- type of target : type of unit define the number of solider, so it should be efficient against infantry / standard against cavalry / not efficient against artillery
