Suggestion about Stonehenge Wonder model ingame (based on Stadia's OpenDev playthrough)

Hi all !

During Stadia's OpenDev, we were able to build wonders, and among all available wonders ingame, Stonehenge has been (to my taste) the least appealing, in terms of graphic/model ingame.

Not due to its look, which is great and pretty accurate, but rather because of its size on the map. Compared to the others available wonders, such as Statue of Zeus, Pyramid of Giza, or Temple of Artemis, the model size when built on the map seems quite small. I understand and am perfectly fine with the fact that each wonder isn't at its real scale ingame, but when it comes to Stonehenge, I kind of feel that the scale is too small.

So, to illustrate that, here are screenshots of each wonder, I tried to match the map scale on each screenshot, for comparison.

The first three wonders :

Stonehenge :

If you transpose Stonehenge model on the first screenshot, it does look quite small in comparison, or at least, lacks a bit of greatness compared to others wonders. And from the playthrough, it sometimes felt that it had the same size as a holy site (sorry for the blurry screenshot, I couldn't find a neater one).

As of now, in the game, the wonder model is mainly only about the famous rocky circle and stones alignment (though when looking closely at it, there is a few more stones around the central circle). But if you look at a wider view of the site, there's actually a circular mound and trench surrounding the stone circle.

I think that including this "outer circle" would help enhance and distinguish even more the model from Stone Rings or Holy Site models in the game, and would make more obvious the greatness of this wonder, such as suggested by this drawing of the reconstructed site :

Thanks for reading,

Cheers !

Indeed, while Stonehenge is quite small comparitively to it's grander neighbors, it's at least probably historically accurate. Instead of expanding the size to take up the whole tile or something radical like that, some trenches, the small hills, and the additional stones seems like a welcome addition.

Personally I'd be amenable to shrinking a few wonders. Temple of Artemis just looks silly being the same size as the pyramids.

I agree with you too, it is a bit weird in terms of scale, and moreover compared to the Statue of Zeus' temple. I'd assume those two temples should be around the same scale.

No, Artemis temple was larger than Zeus temple, so the scale between them are right. (~137x71 / ~64x24 )

It's the Great Pyramid which look too small, or the Artemis Temple too big. (Kheops pyramid was 233 lengh for a side of the square in plan, Artemis Temple 137)

You're right, thanks for the info Narcisse. I didn't bothered looking for the exact dimensions of Artemis Temple :)

It's small yes but it is a natural wonder and.... historically accurate is the best since thats the way it was created, StoneHenge sometimes Hedge* is SMALL & you can hardly notice it on the map but that's just the way it is so I love StoneHenge small or not :)

well, Stonehenge is not really a natural wonder, because builded by men. And the idea here is to let the right scale (so a small stonehenge), but adding the drawing and relief to the ground (like the references), to make it easier to spot and more unique from other Holy Sites. If I'm not wrong

I really like this idea, it's simple and legit. And we saw than they already made some work on the relief for specific City Centers in last previews (the Celts and Olmecs ones)

Hi,

Actually, the little trench was created for this Stonehenge model, it was just buggy on the stadia opendev and it's now working in the game. And as Narcisse told, there are a few quarters that have elements of relief, such as city centers, emblematics or artificial wonders. You can inspect the trailers if you want to spot them ;)
