Hello, Humankind is the first 4X game I've played and I am completely new to the genre, and strategy games in general. I was watching a video on humankind about cities and the dev's ideas of cities and having them evolve over time, and I found that interesting, and gameplay-wise it's been fun so far, my problem is that while this is realistic, the size of territories doesn't really match real life. There's no reason a single city should be taking the entire north and south hemisphere, cities don't grow that large.

So I was thinking a couple of fixes for this would solve the scaling problem, but then problems would arise because that would mean there won't be as many hexagons in a single territory. So instead of decreasing the number of hexagons to decrease territory size, decrease the amount of space hexagons take on the map, decreasing the territory size with it. This will allow for a more realistic evolution of cities.

Creating an option for territory size sounds like a great idea. I'm not really sure what you mean by "decreasing the amount of space hexagons take on the map", though. Could you please elaborate?

If you mean rescaling the world to fit more hexes, that's a reasonable thing to ask. The various map sizes must already do this to some extent, though idk if it goes vertically as well as horizontally.

Someone else explained it a bit better, with the comment above me.

Basically keeping the map size the same but rescaling it so more hexes will fit. It'll make progressing through the map feel a bit slower. And it'll make it so that decreasing territory size doesn't mean you're decreasing the amount of resources in that territory, though that could be an option too.

I'm not sure to what extent the map sizes do this atm.

I fully agree.

Having an option for "average number of hexes per territory" would be a nice addition to the start menu. It could be as simply as few, average or many rather than a specific number.

In terms of map, I would also love a bigger map. I always play on huge. But it's still a bit immersion breaking to have almost the whole map taken by urban districts. In the real world, even today, you still mainly see green and blue from space. The world is not covered by cities. But this was a concern I mentioned during beta and I don't think there's much traction for changing it.

On the topic of costumising territories, the option of "no territories without ressources" would be nice. I mean... Sometimes, the poverty is real.

Edit : (Yes, I am still salty about this game where there was no luxuries (or at least : none for me) or that one where copper and iron where... luxuries (it's a joke : I had none... -_-) )

I also feels the territory size is too large. It will be better to have them smaller, or at lease give option/slider to choose.
