Abundant Resources :)

Huge map, 8 continents, 9 players. Abundant strategic/luxury.
I'm yellow. I just found blue. I have literally 2 luxury tiles on my whole continent, while blue over there has 31 that I can see.
I am somewhat of a luxury hog (same in Civ). So, I've had alot of thoughts on luxury and strategic resources from the beginning, and they have really only implemented one - the abundant/scarce resource setting at the beginning. But they do need to rework, what does abundant mean? Why is everything always clumped together in a few provinces?

Here are my other thoughts on resources:
1) They should not all be clumped together in one or two provinces. All resources need to have 1 clump, and then random 1-2's in other provinces around the world. If they are all clumped in one place, then one player will always get a monopoly. That's not fun gameplay.
2) They need to rethink what terrain the resources appear on. Silver/mercury/lead are ALWAYS in tundra - this is not realistic. Same for all other resources - they appear in terrains that are not realistic to the true Earth. Another example is gems which always appear in desert. No, gems are in the jungle (Burma, India are main deposits, but there's also gems around the world, not just one province). Resources need to have a variety of potential terrains.
3) There always seems to be an even number of them - 2, 4, 6. Why not 3? Why not 12? It should be based on the map size. Small maps should only have a few, while large maps should have the maximum amount (if you choose abundant).
3) They should not count as a district, unless you are able to build other districts attached to them.

Sorry if this seems repetitive, I can't find the old threads where we were discussing this.

Well, it's all about balance I suppose. But starvation can make for an interesting game, no ? I mean, what makes humans go to war (or to trade) is the need for ressources. I geniunly think that lack of some ressources can be a good thing. What make the history of France and Japan, for example, is their complex relashionship with natural ressources. Same for the US, that has everything and think it's the sepecial golden boy because of it, for some reason. (Although they are no longer self sufficient for oil, it's been a while in fact, but I digress.)

Balance then. Make sure you have a modicum, yet can find yourself in a situation when you need to do something to get to the Eldorado... or have to preserve your Eldorado from less... merchant minded individuals.

Edit : same about the repartition of ressources around the map : seem natural to me that their would be some "hot spots" for some ressources, but again, their need to be some balance about it. Oil has some hotspots around the world, for example, America, Russia, Middle East. But you can find some in Europe too, northern sea.

Their was an idea about using the way the ressources in Endless Space 2 were, meaning, you can have large deposits, and mediocre ones. Stockpiles, and shortages. And so on.

Yep agree: diversity is good  to forment conflict but having a base amount of resources is a good idea

Guess the question is how much that base should be :)

BTW: The US has been ramping up production thanks to fracking so we might see a day again where they are not relyint on import again:

I really like the idea of small/med/large desposits. That will prevent this visual spam. And also they have almost no tiles to build on since you can't build where there are resources. They won't be able to get alot of synergies from districts. Maybe there should be a limit of maximum 3 resources per province.
