Affinity Action: Cultural Blitz is busted in the ancient Era

Hey there.

Every time I play this game, I learn new strategies and thats great. However, sometimes it is a little too great balance-wise.


I know people don't find Olmecs and Zhou particularly strong when compared to more obvious favorites like Harapans and Egyptians, but I figured that both O and Z can be pretty nuts due to their insane potential to quickly generate influence in an Era, when influence generations should be limited by design.


Affinity Action: Cultural Blitz, when applied to your growing outpost after reaching the Ancient Era, can generate up to 500 influence simultaneously. This allows O and Z to pop 3 Cities earlier than anyone else, and having 3 of them early is king, because influence lost is compensated by 3 cities in no time and its income surpasses any competing empire's gains.


I think it'd be good if the numbers are tweaked, even halved. I am not calling for a severe nerf that would harm already struggling cultures. But they became my top 3 desired cultural choices after I figured this strategy, su might not be that struggling after all.

It's true. They are the strong affinity by far, you can guarantee any wonder you want and an extra city.

I kinda have to necro this thread. I returned to playing humankind recently and the enormous influence advantage in the ancient era, for aesthetes, is still the case.

Yes, you use it on fast speed and get extra 2 cities, all land around and civics you need. I think in ancient era it shall give the same amount of founding second city (on fast 80 influence, on normal around 150)

I surely agree. In my opinion, at a normal speed, the Cultural Blitz in the first era shouldn't give you more than 100 Influence (something between 60-80 would be fine) and maybe the bonus should scale better (mostly because at the first eras the bonus is exaggerate, while in the later ones it's quite ok).

Agreed.  It could even be capped at 1x or 2x your empire's current influence generation per turn.


Instead of an instantaneous "drop" of several hundred/thousand influence, what if it just supercharged the influence generation on a specific territory for X turns, such that a territory affected by a "Cultural Blitz" converts back to your empire's territory, that territory (and immediate neighbours?) generates 20%, 30%, or 50% more influence per turn for the next 5-10 turns.
