Why can't siege weapons attack undefended fortifed tiles?

I have not been able to get my battering rams or other siege weapons to simply attack undefended fortifed tiles, such as city wall without an defender and that seems like a major issue, especially with armies that have alot of cavalry as those can't cross fortified tiles. I have tested to use the attack command but that don't seems to work.

Right now the defender can take advantage of that, especially against battering rams by moving their units away from the walls and thus make the battering rams useless, which in turn is particular effective against cavalry based armies as cavalry can't cross walls at all. Ranged siege weapons don't have the same issue but even those it would be nice to be able to blow a hole in their walls to allow my units to get through them.

Another minor things is that battering ram seems to get the -4 lack of line of sight penalty when attacking walls, seems very strange they get that penalty.

I noticed this as well. Siege weapons should be able to destroy fortifications, regardless if a unit is standing on that tile or not.

The attack button should do the trick.

I think I have tried that and could not get the battering rams to attack the walls.

They can. And they will destroy them if they do enough damage - which allows cavalry into the fort. So it's a very useful mechanic.

In your case, maybe it's a cliff? Are you on the same elevation as the wall?

In one of my games it looked like the walls were up and my battering rams couldn't do anything, but it turned out the walls were gone completely and it just looked like they were damaged. I spent a good while trying to figure out what was happening before I realized my horses could ride in and stuff.

That's probably the issue. I have the same issue.

But what's worse is if you have a big fight inside a city, sometimes the movement is blocked without visual help because of invisible walls which you need to use a full move for from 1 tile prior.

You may be right and I have done or seen something wrong when I used siege weapons, I will try to check again once I get the chance.

Hey !
I got this issue too.

My Battering Ram was able to attack a wall when there was an ennemy unit in it.

But if the tile is empty or occupied by an allied unit, the ram is not able to attack the wall.

Even when clicking the Attack button first wont fix the thing.
