More (AI) Players per game, same(ish) number of cultures

Idk if this has already been discussed or considered before, but I think it would be great if the max number of (AI) players per game is raised. Right now the max number is 10 (including human player) in a huge map, I wonder if this could be raised to 12 or 15. Now hear me out, the cultures available per era wouldn't necessarily need to be raised. Well, except for the ancient cultures, anyway. it's like a game of musical chairs, basically.

It could be something like this:

  1. 15 players, 10 new cultures per era, huge map (15 cultures for Ancient Era only)
  2. For the next era, 10 players may choose their new cultures. The rest (by choice/ circumstances) have to transcend (stick with the same culture).
  3. The transcendence bonus still applies (cumulative per era)
  4. In the next era, same thing. Both transcended and normal players can choose another culture if they want to, as long as there's still one available.

Or players could just select the same culture.

Selecting the same culture for the next era is called 'transcending' in this game (if that's what you're trying to say).

No I think he was suggesting duplicated culture but I guess that's not what you want, the big issue I see here is that how does the other players will do to catch up if they are forced to transcend ? Transcending is something you should not do if you're lagging behind, which you probably are if you are one of the last going into the era 2.

Maybe at some point they should be allowed to pick cultures that are not used anymore by the other, "winning" players ?

I'm currently playing as transcended Babylonians in a huge map (Empire difficulty) all the way to the Contemporary Era and funnily enough, it's my best scoring so far. Or maybe I'm just getting better at Humankind LUL.

Allowing other players to pick cultures previously selected by "winning" players is an actually interesting idea., The thing is, it may lead to more confusion on who's who in the current era, I think?

There is a lot of confusion already on that matter that we need to address anyways (plus, what's a 4X without a lot of confusion ?).

While I do consider the current limit as a mechanism of preventing too much cpu usage, I think the game should allow us to add more if we wanted to. The map can be really big and the number of players will decrease after some wars. I really like the idea of playing a world game scenario filled with many civilizations to trade, wage war and have some alliances or conflicts. 20 players should be the maximum cap.

Perhaps it would make sense to as civilizations are wiped out in wars, to allow Independent People's to grow/confederate into a new full player? That way if there is enough map space and a lack of maximum players a new one can fill in the gaps?

That is a really interesting idea too, but I think it would be hard to create a persona out of those independent peoples. They would need to create a randomly persona or find one from your library that meets their culture axis.

I'd like to see some tangible outcomes of transcending - If you transcend the Zhou into the Classical Era, for example, you can access a new EU and/or ED in the future eras, or you're granted a new legacy trait for each era you transcend.

Independent peoples need much deserved love right now. For a start, I think they should have their own (minor) affinities and traits, similar to major empires. Minor affinities and traits that could complement/ enhance a player's own trait & affinity IF you assimilate them. When an IP somehow managed to accumulate enough patronage from major empires without getting assimilated, they should be able to form a new major empire in the next era (human player can pick them too).
