In the Stadia opendev in the classical Era I ascended my religion to Christianity and was surprised to find the following.

Seeing as this is supposed to be representative of pre Nicean 4th century Christianity It bothered me and some others that early Christianity was represented by a quite modern-looking cross. Considering that there is quite some controversy on not only the type of cross used, but also if the Cross was even the implement of Jesus death historically (Seeing as the word xyʹlon is used to identify the device used. A Greek-English Lexicon, by Liddell and Scott, defines this as meaning: “Wood cut and ready for use, firewood, timber, etc. . . . piece of wood, log, beam, post . . . cudgel, club . . . stake on which criminals were impaled . . . of live wood, tree.) (as well as the Greek word for cross that has also been used in manuscripts, [stau·rosʹ], properly signified a stake, an upright pole, or piece of paling, on which anything might be hung, or which might be used in impaling [fencing in] a piece of ground. . . . Even amongst the Romans the crux (from which our cross is derived) appears to have been originally an upright pole.)

My point being that the usage of the Cross (a modern one at that) as a representation for early Christianity is quite off-color, and seems a bit off considering the historical and real-world implications it has not only to modern faiths and peoples but also to the representation of ancient peoples practices it seems to represent in this game.

There are multiple alternatives to using such a Cross as the "early" Christian monument" Multiple early architectural examples of early places of worship as well as other forms of symbology or places of early Christian importance can be used and not be so...off color.

Thank you for your time.

I would disagree. Many early Christians during the first two or so centuries of Christianity, as well as many of their critics and persecutors, are almost unanimous in describing Jesus having died on a T-shaped cross. There is a piece of anti-Christian graffiti dating to the early 200s that shows that early Christians believed Jesus died on a T-shaped cross. If the early Christians passed it down and spread to others that he died on a cross, it would be logical to say that that shape or image would have passed to the Romans as well.

While I do agree that the cross does look quite modern-looking and therefore anachronistic, I don't think most people would be offended by it, unless they're a scholar of early Christianity. In that case, I would prefer it to be a small church with a cross on top to fit with the era.

While in my studies I happen to be along the lines that Cross veneration is a form of early Christian Syncretism, well this isn't the public space for that. Though I will very much agree with you that there are far more architecturally representative monuments and structures for early Christianity.

There is a faith tab next to the civics tab. When you are ready it will show you eight options and you pick one to upgrade your religion. Religions can be upgraded three times in the current build.

All I have to say is that it's so weird to see icons from Amplitude games next to such a quintessentially Earthly* structure.

*In the sense of location and origin, I'm not trying to make a dig at the nature of crosses or Christianity.
