Hi, is there any tip on how the transport ships work (if work at all in the dev version)? Trying with the carrack which seem to be the highest tear of transport ships. No idea how to load units to transfer them quicker or at least across the ocean without loosing them.

Thanks.

As in all civ-like games, land units 'transform' into boats upon contact with water after necessary tech is researched. In this Open Dev these are Trade expeditions for 2-mp boats that can only move along coast and 3-mp boats after researching Three-masted ships.

Moving land units into a coast tile automatically replaces them with naval transport units (you have to research it). Doing so on Port tile doesn't cost movement speed loss.

Tooltip reads that Constructing Great Lighthouse of Alexandria gives naval units +2 movement speed, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on naval transport units. (at least from my gameplay)

Actually, this is a functionality that wasn't added until Civ 5. Prior to Civ 5, units required a transport, including in Civilization 4 (widely considered the apex of the series).

Ok, so when I will be able to move units across the ocean? They will die basically after three turn in deep waters.... There is just one "land" bridge in this scenario....

I thought that when a boat in description is a transport it will help with this....

BTW many thanks for your posts!

The unit description is a bit confusing... You have to research Naval transport units, not Boarding Vessels. And for the ability to safely navigate ocean tiles, you have to use Naval Transport Unit from Early Modern era(one with 3 movement speed). It is the first high-see capable ship among all other ships. Any ships from earlier eras would take damage from the consecutive turn. (regardless of its type)
