Significant Performance Issues / Memory Leak

Description
Since passing turn 100 I've begun having persistent performance issues in my first playthrough, extreme enough that it's prompting constant forced restarts and making it unlikely I'll finish this first run and reach the in-game feedback goal. The performance issue in question appears to be a memory leak, at the very least the times I've tabbed out I can see the game using all of my available RAM (~7GB of 8GB - the rest being used by the O/S etc.), with the effect on the game being long (10-15s+) freezes with brief windows of functionality - generally enough to open the menu, save and exit in the space of about 3-4 freezes.

The earliest indication the memory leak seems to be occuring is an audio bug occuring where all sound - music/fx/etc will begin to stutter and cut out, eventually muting besides the intermittent noise from ui fx. This happened a couple times in the early game but I just restarted due to the annoyance of the janky audio before experiencing any significant performance issues (and before reaching the lategame - I haven't tested a new game yet to clarify).

It appears to be occuring every 3 turns past the 100th, at the very least the times I've been forced to save and exit all land on these turns (103,106,109,112). One possible commonality besides the turn numbering is that these turns all had recent diplomacy interactions if my memory serves correctly. Latest occurence was on turn 114 with no diplomacy, at this point I'm fairly sure it's just a memory leak and is capping my RAM at about the 30mins mark - granted ~5mins of that is game startup and loading the save to begin with.

This issue appears to happen regardless of specific video settings (fast/simple/etc).

Steps to Reproduce
Load lategame (midgame?) savefile such as one provided on a low-end machine. Play until performance drop is noticeable?

Reproducibility

5/5 - Albeit I can't be certain what's causing it - just that it is consistent on my machine specs.

Expected Behavior
I guess some increased memory usage and potential lag would be expected at this development stage later on in the gameplay - but not to this extent?

Notes
Just to verify my low-end machine is still within minimum specs:
OS: Win7 64bit
CPU: Intel i5-4690K
Memory: 8GB
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970
HDD: Has 100+ GB free
Drivers: DirectX, NVIDIA, etc. all on latest drivers

I've noticed this will happen on a fairly consistent basis if you reload several saves during one session without restarting the game, even on much earlier turns.

This happened to me once exactly as you describe it and I have a pretty beefy rig. I'm playing on max settings and at 2K resolution. Audio corruption followed by periods of the game not responding. I had to save the game in moments while it was responsive and then quit out.

Quitting to desktop and then relaunching and loading the save fixed the issue for me however. I played through the rest of my playthrough without it happening again to the same extent.

. Quitting to desktop and then relaunching and loading the saved game fixed the issue for the next 7 turns for me. Than it starts again.

Ran into this too.  The physics for graphics (like the feathers on Lucy's outfit) would jitter, the music would stop completely, and the sound effects would stutter.  Restarting the game and reloading my save would fix it.

It takes me forever (not literally, but about 25 minutes) to load the game initially. I go through cycles of program not responding, click wait for it to respond, then it loads a bit more. I play 4x games all the time with no problem, and this seems to be a memory leak of some sort. If it's just me, then perhaps I can't play the game, but I suspect from reading comments here and elsewhere, that it is more widespread.

I, too, have a fairly beefy rig.  (32 Gb of RAM and 4 Gb of VRAM) On my first playthrough, I didn't experience any slowdown memory issues.  But now in my second run, I got to about the last 30 turns and have been getting almost-total freezes.  (Wait long enough and it eventually gets moving again... for a few minutes.)  I bailed out and rebooted my PC twice now, but when I come back, I only get a few turns before it starts almost-freezing again.

Hate to be this close to the Finish Line and start feeling like I might not make it.

P.S.  What does that icon and numbers refer to just under "Newcomer"?

Captain, The points are your weight when voting. If you upvote a post, your points are added to that post. If you vote during a competition, then the total score of all users who voted for an option is considered when choosing a winner.

Thanks for illuminating me.  (Wow.  If a "Newcomer" has 8,400 like me, then what does a Senior Forum Member get?  Something like half-a-million?  8^D )

Can confirm, this happens in every playthrough. Sound begins to stutter, sometimes it helps not doing anything and it catches up.

Agreed. I've stopped testing due to a bug at turn 33 but even still I was trying to figure out if having fewer cities would help at all. Had vaguely planned on trying for a 3 city only run focused on stability to see if that kept the issues down.

Hi everyone thanks for your reports, If you are seeing memory leaks with sound issues please let us merge our findings here:

https://www.games2gether.com/amplitude-studios/humankind/forums/209-bug-reports/threads/38599-bug-corrupted-sound?page=1#post-309061

for the thing that Windows reports a "close program" dialog I have created an own topic but this is merely happening when unloading the application, not related to the memory issue.
