I'm having the same or similar issue : the game loads extremely slowly or crashes halfway through the loading screen.

Windows 10x64, AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950x 16 core, 64GB ram, nvidia 1080ti

This -> If you have played in the previous Steam OpenDev, please remove the registry.xml from the Documents\Humankind\Users\ directory as well as your saves directory.

it helped me right away
