Going into a river if you're not navigating on it absorb all remaining movement cost. If a road go over it it should only cost 1 (like any other tile) So I guess your other cases are bug.

There is actually a button to use the move cursor, right next to the movement point counter.

In this cursor you will always see the path taken by the army.

On the "normal" cursor you can maintain your right click to see the path and cancel by releasing the button on your position.

I can't really adress your first point, I'm not on the historic side of the game.

As for your path issue for the first picture : 

You are unable to do this movement because the zoc is taking a lot of your movement point, you can go directly from the start to the finish because it will cost all of your movement point (to us it's like you are embarking on a new river), that's why the pathfinding try to follow the river.

You're absolutely welcome to add your save files and diagnostics! They are always appreciated.

You shouldn't have to go back to square one every session. This has been a rare (and difficult to reproduce) issue, so you shouldn't have this problem in most of your games. Unfortunately, we don't have a good work around for this at the moment other than trying to load back to an earlier auto save, then reload the auto save and see if it reloads correctly. If it does, you should be okay to keep going from there, but I can't promise this will work. I hope you will be able to resume your game, and not run into the issue again.

There is a workaround for this, but it is a bit technical, so please be careful with this:

Go do "Documents/Humankind/User/[alpha-numeric code]" and open the registry file there with a text editor.

Find the "<Display>" section in this document.

At the end of this section, add the following line: <MaxFrameRate>30</MaxFrameRate>

When you're done, it should look something like this (with the appropriate resolution and quality level and your desired framerate, of course):

<Display>
<DisplayMode>FullscreenWindow</DisplayMode>
<Resolution>3840x2160 (0)</Resolution>
<VSyncCount>0</VSyncCount>
<QualityLevel>Medium</QualityLevel>
<MaxFrameRate>30</MaxFrameRate>
</Display>

This will limit the framerate and should help with the overheating issues.
