My game runs at 5 fps during the late stages at around turn 450. It seems that my computer cannot handle rendering the hundreds of districts and other entities placed down by me and other competing AI empires. The problem can be replicated by simply building numerous districts to the point your game starts lagging. I can temporarily "fix" this problem by loading a save with much lesser districts built in my world and the game runs at 120 fps again. This problem ruins my experience playing late game, for now, I can only enjoy games leading up to the earlier parts of the contemporary era. Please optimize your game so I and many others can enjoy your game to the fullest. Thank you.
Update 1: My GPU and CPU utilization barely exceed 20% in the affected save game (Turn 450+). When I load an earlier save (Turn 360), my GPU and CPU utilization goes back up to 90% and above. Thanks to Beechmunky for pointing this out.
Update 2: I imported the affected save (turn 452) to a much stronger gaming setup, here are the specs:-
OS: Windows 11
GPU: Radeon RX 6700XT (12 GB vRAM)
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X (6 Cores 12 Threads)
RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3600 Mhz
Storage: 1 TB SSD
The game ran at a shocking 1 frame per second with 0% to 10% GPU utilization.
This is proof that my computer is not at fault and this problem can happen on any gaming setup.
Things I tried before reporting this bug in this thread
1) Restarted my game
2) Restarted my computer
3) Gave my game a high priority in task manager
4) Updated GPU drivers
5) Switched from DirectX to Vulkan as recommended by developers (Game couldn't launch anymore)
6) Removed FPS lock and changed to 720p resolution
I don't know if this is related. But I'm having an issue where the game runs at about 7fps towards endgame. But it seems to be savegame specific on my pc.
I check my graphics card utilization and its at 10% on this particular game. This is a smaller map 5 players around turn 170 and the issue happened between one turn and the next. This is the first game I've seen it happen. I messed with the settings, updated graphics card drivers etc. Didn't seem to matter what I did the GPU utilization never went up. Everytime I load that particular savegame. I'd be curious to know if you took a peek at the graphics card usage and see if its running full tilt.
I can load another savegame with max players on a huge map at turn 250 and it flies at full fps. And the graphics card utilization is at 100%.
My system is new one with a RTX 3080, with 11th gen intel and its flies normally. Was about to post my own bug, but then I saw yours, and thought I would ask.
I checked my GPU and CPU usage after loading up my low fps game. You were right, the GPU and CPU usage barely exceed 20% and that must definitely be the cause of this performance issue. I will update the main thread with this observation, thanks a lot for pointing this out.
In order for us to fully investigate this issue we need the following:
- Your last two auto-saves, and any other saves you think may help show the problem. Your saves are by default located:
o PC: \Users\[username]\Documents\Humankind\Save Files
o Mac: This is hidden in the Libraries folder. You will need to do an internet search to find specific steps for your OS. Once the libraries folder is revealed, they are in /library/ application support/humankind/Save Files
- Your diagnostics logs. These are time stamped, and any time you close and relaunch the game, new ones are started. Please grab all diagnostics logs related to the session you were playing where the issue occurred. These are by default located:
o PC: \Users\[username]\Documents\Humankind\Temporary Files
o Mac: This is hidden in the Libraries folder. You will need to do an internet search to find specific steps for your OS. Once the libraries folder is revealed, they are in user/library/ application support/humankind/Temporary Files
- Information about the system you are playing on. To get this information:
o PC: From the Windows desktop, press the Windows and R keys to open the Run window. In the Open: field of the Run window, type dxdiag. Click OK or the Enter key to open the DirectX* Diagnostic Tool. o Mac: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203001
