or should we all just assume that amplitude has abandoned this game to remain in its current state forever without getting the DLC and fixing the constant crashes?

Amplitude are unfortunately much like the developers of " The day before". Very similar in that they both scam their customers. The console and Mac versions of the game are literally unplayable as there is a 100% chance the game will crash in later stages. The devs just keep quiet and just do everything not to acknowledge the issue. Says a lot about the people working at amplitude and their values.
