Consolidating an idea from this post: WALDER'S HUMANKIND ARMY MOVEMENT & VISION CHANGES

In short, it would be to insert a stance system for land units, where in exchange for movement points, units would gain the initiative in combats even when they are the defenders.

I believe that with the Matternich update, three postures would be enough:

  1. Normal / Exploration: follow the current mechanics of the units. A squad's movement points are limited by the slowest member unit. In combat, when initiated by the squad itself, retains movement initiative as long as the defending army is not in Defense Stance. If it is the defending army, the enemy army will have the movement initiative.
  2. Defense: an army in the defense posture would have the burden of having its movement points reduced by half, in exchange, if attacked, it will have movement initiative in combat, as long as it is not the victim of an ambush. If an army in Defense Stance starts an attack, it automatically switches to Normal Stance.
  3. Ambush / Stealth: retained the behavior that stealth units now have, with the difference that they are able to preserve initiative against units in Defense Stance. If attacked, behaves as in Normal Stance. In addition to that it would be an exclusive stance for agent/spy-type units.

All ground units would be able to switch from Normal Stance to Defense Stance, and vice versa. The act of switching stances would cost at least one movement point, and could scale according to the number of units within that army.

In the case of several armies in different postures involved in a combat, in the first round there could possibly be up to four movements, depending on the posture of the armies in the mobilization area. From the second round of combat, we have only two moves again, preserving the order of the first turn. This way, the first move would be the army units with the highest move priority, where Ambush > Defense > Normal, and so on.

So we would have the following scenarios*:

*Consider Red as Attacker, and Blue as Defender

  • Scenario where combat was initiated by an Ambush, with the attacker mobilizing units in Normal Stance, and the defender having deployed units in Defense and Normal Stance, there would be 4 moves, Ambush -> Defense -> Normal -> Normal.
  • Scenario where attacker mobilized Ambush and Normal unit, and defender mobilized units in Defense Stance, there would be 3 moves, Ambush -> Defense -> Normal.
  • Scenario where attacker mobilized units in Normal Stance, and defender mobilized units in Defense and Normal Stance, there would be 3 moves, Defense -> Normal -> Normal.
  • In the other scenarios, there would be only two moves, Attacker -> Defender, where defender behaves like Normal Stance, or Defender -> Attacker, where defender is in Defense Stance and attacker Normal unit.

In general, it is a proposal that aims to reduce the advantage of initiating the attack, since as the posture of an army is not public, the initiative would not be guaranteed.
