Lots of Stuff.

I would say a bit of Master of Magic, a bit of Civilization, a bit of Endless space as well (for the lore), and I am probably missing quite a few, but mostly, a lot of work from the Devs to make a mix which drives us crazy.

Many good ideas in the game, the way the terrain works, the way battle happens, and awesome graphics. Frankly, just the loading screen of Endless legends makes you want to drool. smiley: smile

What I want to know more of is city-management.

I'm having an increadibly hard time to tell if spreading what little knowledge I could obtain about that would or wouldn't hurt the NDA.

Especially when the saying is: "It's okay to tease people but the information shouldn't go to deep."

Since I didn't actually understand what was going on, I think I can probably tell what I remember from the presentation without risking to go too deep due to the lack of actual knowledge.

Also I think that unlike the tech tree, where they mentioned noone from the press has seen that, they have shown that to the press and so it's kinda public anyways.

What I can say is that the city-management looked much deeper in terms of potentially different outcomes depending on what you do than it is in Endless Space.

Note that everything I state now might probably be wrong and just me not having understood it right and replacing the missing parts with thought up stuff:

A city works all of its hexes aswell as all hexes directly adjacent to it.

You don't put population on the hexes like in Civ5, instead the population can be assigned to the FIDS as a multiplier. I don't know if 0 pop on something means that there's 0 of that FIDS, though. This might or might not be the case.

You can decide for your city to cover more hexes. A city might become really big on the world-map that way.

For example:

A Size 1 city works 7 (1 core, 6 adjacent) Hexes and can only multiply either of the Fids.

A Size 2 city might or might not be grown in area-coverage. It will already benefit from having more population by adding a FIDS-multiplier.

If it is grown in area-coverage by adding one of the adjacent hexes to the city, it should now have... uhm 10 (2 core, 8 adjacent) hexes total. From then on it really depends where you add the city-hexes. Wider cities cover more area but are harder to defend, while more "clumped up"-cities cover less area but are easier to defend. Not adding hexes will be easiest to defend but cover the least area.

I'm not quite sure but I think I also remember that there are different types of city-hex-extensions. It might also be that you have to build them first before placing them. Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure it corelates with your population. The different types might generate different FIDS and/or act as defensive buildings.

City-Hexes usually produce different FIDS than adjacent hexes. In the example the starting-city hex had a bonus on everything, the added city-hex was 1 Dust+1 Science and the adjacent hexes where either 1 Food or 1 Industry. But don't ask me what exactly affects that. I think terrain-type is the most likely explanation. Like Hills give you Industry and Plains give you Food. There also where Strategic Ressources on the Map. While I haven't seen that, I would imagine that getting them into your worked area would give a much better output than the regular 1/2 FIDS I've seen on the other hexes.

Building improvments and units is pretty straightforward and just works like in ES/Civ/any other 4x.

I think the concept of city-building is amazing as you have tons of actually meaningfull decisions to make. I also don't think it is as complicated as it might sound from my confused description. (I was sitting almost 3 metres away from the screen and it was quite loud in the bar when they explained that stuff so I understood barely half of what they said.)

Thank you for the very good explanation of the city-management, although confusing at times. Can't wait to try it myself.

I was disappointed with system management in ES, to be quite honest. There was just one logical course: expand expand expand.

Looks better in EL smiley: approval thanks Ail

Yeah, me neither, trying it myself seems like the only way to shed some light into the darkness of confusion that exists in my mind about that! smiley: biggrin

Who won? ^_^

Also, I just noticed that there's now an official announcement on the front page of Amplitude Studios... I guess I'm no longer special for ninja'ing this thread to existence smiley: cry

Unless it's one of those things that stay with you forever... Yeah, I'd like that. When I die, I want someone to engrave a "ninja'd a topic on some game forums before the right forum was even made... nerd" on my tombstone.

EDIT:
Pfff... Chess... Real men play go

Go? You mean Go-stop, that card game? Or am I missing something? :3

Not. At. All.

Don't try the game of go. You would find all other games to be "meh".

Dunno. I think the devs are still in a phase where a release date is too rough to be set in stone or marble or clay or sand or whatever.
