so they replaced spiders with bears? Well that at least seems more feasible for the bigger specimens. Fighting a large rat in an obvious spider lair with the nametag "spiders lair" did somewhat spoil the atmosphere

Scorpions are the coolest bug on the planet. I would definitely want an entire race of scorpions in the game, even though they are Arachnids. So if an Arachnid faction were to go in the game, I think Scorpions would be a good middle ground.

You forgot to put in SPACE in there. Evil Space poodles. I don't think it would be a tie, it would have to be a pompadour instead!

All of my G2G votes are now going towards the creation of a playable spider race if possible because of this thread.

I would play an Arachnid faction all day everyday and put the Cravers to shame.

B-but... Spiders are adorable... Spiders help you out, and look so cute doing it. Alas, I feel I might be in the minority here, but take heart, gentle antiarachnists, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to replace the images in diplomacy and unit windows with that of another in-game at launch race. And you can do that, but I'll keeping my Chaotic Good Giant Space Spiders, fo' sho.

Hmm... a Drider-like race where women eat the men upon impregnation in a vastly matriarchal society could be fun. Turn to humans if modified for arachnophobia, another race where the women consume the lives of the men. (I jest! )

So long as they aren't 'buhuu the men suffer so much, poor men' this could actually be an interesting and awesome idea. Make it creative and unique - a deep layer of ritualism surrounds the sacrifice and devouring of the male Drider-folk, and their drained husks are refitted with tools/dust and used as temple guards. The right to be eaten is some sort of highly-sought position, maybe with a cultural bravado to it that guarantees a place in the history-webs. Drider-folk females live longer and spin longer webs, so they are considered more important in the various sections of society - and less expendable, which means most soldiers are Drider-folk drones. Web-building is like glassblowing for humanoid societies, but also like book-binding... Maybe the Drider-folk can tell the history or stories of important people or places from the strumming of a particular strand of web?



My main problem with 'traditional' depictions of matriarchal society is that they usually end up reinforcing somewhat patriarchial ideas; because it's easier for most to digest, I prefer using the terms Enatic, Agnatic, and Cognatic. I now feel somewhat geeky, but I digress... Who all is with me for creating spiderfolk if they aren't a faction at launch?

how about a race of lizard people that wear black suits? that would be nice.
