Yeah I really like this idea. I also thought it would be cool if maybe when you first pick a faction that they would say something. That would add a bit of personality and get you in the mood to play that faction a little bit more.

This would add so much to the game, even if they forgo any animations.

Simply adding faction-specific text to the popup would go a long way.

Endless Space needed more flavor that was added later on. It could use some more. Endless Legend needs it from the get go so that the early reviewers don't skewer the game for being generic when in reality it's anything but.

It would be pretty sweet Devildog, it would really help build the factions personalities. Yeah, I love the idea of race-specific music, too. You could tell who you were meeting in Master of Orion 2 even before they appeared because of their music. Same thing with Ascendancy; hell, Ascendancy was amazing in that regard.

I'm just hoping that they already have something like this planned for release. I worry that they don't. I'm not sure why Amplitude makes such a small deal of bumping in to other players. A small popup does not help me feel immersed.

I agree with you there. It is an unfortunate reality that due to the similarities in gameplay EL has to really shine in comparison to Civilization 5 because the civ series is a well established franchise.

I also dislike the fact that you must research the ability to make a peace treaty and have other meaningful interactions with the AI. I want to ally with them earlier on, and with the slowness of research in comparison to unit movement, it is easy to have a full out war and destroy a civilization without any means for peace because I didn't know how yet.,
