Well there are games *hust(AoW2 or was it Warlock2)hust* that have the option to have simultaneous or "standart" turns. I don't think its an AI problem rather than an implementation one... I thought EL had "standart" turns, so it would make hotseat relativly easy to use...

I am gonna be as honest as i can... i love hotseat, and in most games is a must for me... i got kind of dissapointed about it not being in EL but i understand, their combat is simply NOT coded for hotseat.

That said... why not getting the second best thing... coop hotseat. If you are playing coop with the other player you won't fight them therefore it wouldn't really mean that much of a problem... or at least it may be more approchable

Just my 2 cents...

It's right I don't know much about coding, but I can easily imagine a kind of "save state" of any turn during which each player plays his turn, then the game take back to this "saved state" for the next player, then the game should probably "solve" the turn with all mixed players moves and actions exactly the same way the game already does it with internet multiplayer.

The difference is just that the game have to "wait" for all players to finish their turns one at a time before solving this "simultaneous turn". (this is a kind of "virtual simultaneity" both for hotseat and over internet)

And if it is really too much or tricky work to do, a real "one by one turn" option like for civilisation V is also a possibility to think about.

PS : I really think this hotseat question is not about any "priority" of developpement.

For those of you who don't know much about coding, taking a game that was designed for simultaneous turns (such as Endless Legend) and making it so that hotseat play works (depending on the exact way the game was coded and how dependant things are on the simultaneous turns thing) takes lots of time, ranging from dozens to hundreds of hours to implement. It's a ton of work for something that only a small fraction of the total fanbase will use (albeit not a non-existant one), with the end result being it's going to be rather low priority.

I mean I'm all for it, but having somewhat of a grasp of the amount of work it would require I would be very surprised if it ever made it into the game.

I mainly bought this game for this hotseat option, and his absence at the 1.0 release disappointed me a little. His potential long term absence could be a great lack in my point of view. As said ealier about ES, the fact that at least 2 of devs know how much this multiplayer type is appreciated on this kind of game is pretty comforting.

Anyway, this game remains beautiful and a great example of what my own country can do with passion and soul, and I feel that this game still got a big and not developped potential.

Hmm you mean that you only add content which was planned / you had in mind ? Not sure that the G2G community is so useful if its your only argument smiley: wink

Not sure that what u meant !

I mean no offences !

She means that they could add hotseat to the game, but doing so right now would force them to slow down production of the rest of the game (factions, quests, etc). They might add Hotseat in a later patch or expansion, however smiley: wink

The game has been designed with simultaneous turns in mind, to add hotseat would mean quite a bit of work, and that would be detrimental to other aspects of the game, again we need to focus for now.

God, this feels like a fight we've already lost. Still, +1.

I have fond memories of hotseat games, mostly the Heroes of Might and Magic series. Just why are hotseat multiplayer and actual, proper turn so rare these days? If I play a turn-based game, I would like to at least have the option of having completely separate turns for each player. I would have thought hotseat might become more popular again with Valve pushing the Big Picture stuff and announcing the Steambox and generally trying to become part of the "living room gaming" console market.

To be fair, Hotseat could be programmed into the game at a later date. Right now, it's probably more important to get the game release-ready.

Still, I'd like to be able to play hotseat as well. +1.

Sorry to break this to you but we have answered to the hotseat suggestion in the FAQ:

noone can persuade me that hotseat isn't available for turn based games. even if turns are simultaneously executed.

It's only the hunger for $$

Hey everyone, so I know Endless Legends will likely follow Endless Space in the multiplayer modes available, however I wanted to voice my support for a hotseat option even if I am alone in that.

A huge portion of the time I spend with my girlfriend is playing hotseat games with her. Generally we play a heavily modded version of Civilization IV and we used to play some of the Heroes of Might and Magic games. I am of course, greatly excited for this game to be released so I would love to be able to play this with her as well.

I know there is really no other time I would play a hotseat game anymore so this is probably a very small niche to include a feature for. Just wondering if there is any chance for such a feature.

Hotseat would be nice to see. Can someone explain why it would be complicated to implement? With (online) multiplayer even though it is "simultaneous" it still has to wait for everyones turn orders to come in to process a turn. If one player was to wait for another player to finish the system would still work...Why would hotseat be any different than a player waiting for another player to click End Turn?

It is just that it is not a very "pretty" solution. You lost out all the benefits of a simultaneous turn system. Then there are the issues when you start combat with the person you are playing with. You can not end your turn until combat is resolved, however they obviously need to play their turn to resolve the combat. It can be done with simultaneous turns... just not in an elegant way.

Hotseat would be amazing for me because my Internet capabilities are very limited. I used to play a lot of heroes of might and magic with my brother.

Definitely +1
