Could Amplitude finalize the design of the faction from Quest 1 before we start choosing units and heroes for it? They already stated they were going to work with the creator to make it fit into the lore of Endless Legend.

Ya know, I finally realized why the heck it was hardest to draw 1) I have no idea how to draw hoods 2) I wanted to avoid making body too similar to Preacher.
So I googled how to draw hoods and I think its improved now... STILL requires much more effort. Anyway, ahem, not gonna bother scanning my drawings before final ones so I'll just use crappy photos. Also, yeah, that one is inspired by that masked Endless android hero in ES more or less. I do have alternate hero unit design idea that would be different, but... Well, I'll do it after all other stuff are finished. Or I guess maybe... Hmm..
Anyway, so why I go with robot cyclops thing? Because thats what endless machines have looked like so far. Cyborg ants aka cravers have single robot eye, sowers have single robot eye... You get the picture.
Also, that eye in the half broken mask isn't actually eye hole(otherwise single big robot eye behind the mask would feel even odder), its painted <_< Hard to convey that detail from black and draw drawing, I'm not good with details like that.

Huh. Now that you mention it, the hand does look like a real hand But yeah, it doesn't really help you with unit designs though since this is apparently visual competition.

Ah, crap. I made update but... There are two images that aren't supposed to be in that post. [ATTACH]10759[/ATTACH][ATTACH]10760[/ATTACH] These two. I don't have any idea why they showed up. Edit: Yay, managed to delete them! But now I have to post those two unfinished bonus pics again!
I got fed up with how hard this is, so I'm taking a break, but before that I made quick sketches(REALLY quick) of city, queen and unspoken plus the Babtist.
With queen I wanted to show basic idea: Main body is this super large biomechanical thing inside the cathedral with there being small hanging upper torso from it. I tried to do fast pic of stained glass with unspoken, but it ended up in failure fast and didn't want to put more effort into extra drawings right now. The Babtist was originally idea for settler replacement, but hes my "in case" second hero unit design now. It is surgery/medic robot repurposed into machine that goes around performing "miracles" to make minor faction villagers believe in the fatih. It has multiple arms with bonesaws, syringers, etc.
Anyway, all my update pictures in first post are still work in progress, but I'd like to hear opinion on them. Also, need to figure out how to remove bonus pictures I accidentally added <_< I have no idea how to remove "Attached Images" due to them not showing up in edit for some reason x-x;
So I went back to the drawing board. I wasn't very happy with my original concept. Actually, that's not true. I liked it, but didn't think it was particularly fitting. So I started brainstorming again. What I decided was that I liked the idea of them being somewhat Lovecraftian or Egyptian to tie in with the whole cult of death thing. It made sense in my head. So here's the first sketch I did.
1) Incense Dispenser. Seemed like a pretty useful tool for a priest to have. Could also contain some sort of neurological compound that makes those who inhale it more susceptible to suggestion.
2) The hat is inspired by hats worn by scribes or officials of Egypt.
3) This is sort of difficult to explain. Basically under all the robes is a complex network of ancient machinery keeping him "alive". This particular piece is a strange orb of unknown composition that can shift its magnetic poles and can work off of even trace elements of metal, allowing him to float along. I'm not a scientist. I'm sure there's a more intelligent way to describe that.
4) Basic ziggurat / pryamid. I haven't adorned it with runes yet. Note the strange geometry at the top.
5) Their writing system. Basically it's just a bunch of jumble of lines and circles.
6) Here we get deeper into their language. Basically additional lines denote emphasis or severity. In this case the word "good" because "very good" or "great".
7) This is an axe modification that's inspired by Egyptian design.
8) Funerary robes. Will be heavily inscribed.
Basically this is a design for a high priest. He goes around the city saying the mantras of the cult, dispensing incense and culling non-believers. They float and are fanatically devout to the Queen, essentially being another mind in the hive to begin with.
This is the second sketch I've been working on that details the priests face a bit more, as well as the starts of some weapon designs.
1) "Mechanorganic Eye". A synergy of man and machine that is routed directly into the brain. Supplies the priest with temperature readings and different levels of sight.
2) Priestly head dress.
3) Tattoo marking him as a high priest (three lines).
4) A little device that actually gives off an infrared signature to other mechanical servitors that tell them who and what he is. Basically IFF.
5) This was just something I was tooling with. Since his arms are usually occupied by a weapon and an incense spreader he would have something for fine manipulation. Slightly inspired by a pharoah's beard.
6) These are just some gizmos that elevate and crane his head. The orb at the bottom is the same thing as what keeps him afloat, only this is socketed into a metal cuff that by manipulating the magnetic field of the orb he can move it around like a free joint, even turning it around entirely if need be.
7) Just an outline of an axe.
8) Starts of a Khopesh, or Egyptian sword.
Although I'm no artist, the really elongated limbs was intentional. I wanted them to appear a bit more frightening, and an easy way to do that is to give them exaggerated features like narrow elongated limbs. If I had a bit more artistic talent I'd probably have part of the face exposed to reveal machinery or bone.
These are the new additions. They're submissions for the rank and file starting troop. The Thronebourne are sort of the hooded, masked, neophyte types that are useful as only fodder. Immortals are a hybrid of man and machine that unthinkingly serve the Queen.
1) The orbs are semi-magical or what have you. They're sort of similar to the high priest floaty orb thingy. They can attune to specific metals and can be controlled through thought. The attachment at the end is a scourge, which probably won't make the cut because I couldn't see it being particularly useful against armored units.
2) Sarong and mid-section armor belt.
3) Pointy hat.
4) Shield. Standard wooden shield.
5) Khopesh
6) Axe
7) Mask to conceal identity
8) Banded armor around the midsection (fastens in the back).
9) Braids designate rank based on number and color, as well as legion.
These actually look really good, but I think I'd prefer a bit more grime too the look. I dunno, maybe it's because I watched Sonic SatAM growing up, but robots that don't look dirty have always seemed weird to me.
And here's another thing I started thinking of when I read Nos' description of the faction (property of the Animatrix. and whoever was part of making it):

I've been told that I did unnecessary work but I keep reading rules and each time I understand it requires all three x-x; Okay so which it is? If I don't need to do hero, units and city, then yaaaaay since I suck at city design as I've learned

I think the Dev team wants visual art (made by the contributor, and not the stuff I've been posting), but I can't see how a design description would in any way be a negative thing. After all, it you cannot quite draw how you imagine a unit or city looking, then having an art description might help fill in the blanks

The rules only list visual means with which to convey "How you imagine the faction."

It seems to be mostly about how you visualize the factions. Every contestant should make a hero, a city, and units, but I'm just not sure whether or not missing one or even two of these will be enough to disqualify.
The only reason I am questioning whether or not all are necessary is the fact that the rules don't seem to limit the participants to just those three things. ima confused too

I meant that I've seen plenty of people to do only description of what their idea look like. Which makes me confused of whether that qualifies or not. I mean, you CAN do designs based on descriptions, but its rather tedious progress if you ask me.
And yeah, I still look for feedback on my art updates <_< And yeah, city one is really quick sketch, I'm tomorrow going to do slightly(I suck at building design :P I prefer weird creepy creatures like Servant) better picture that is clearer.
Then there are posts that only have city or unit or hero designs x-x; So have I misunderstood rules and did hero and city designs for nothing?(Yeah, i consider hero one to be expendable. Big surprise, most effort was put into units. Though having haywire robot hero would still be cool)

On second, hmm, ok, I see... If its not enough to disqualify, then how is poll done? Is there three polls for hero, units and city? That can't be, otherwise winners would be in conflict with each other(unless same people win all three) and there would need to be three g2g polls. Like, none of entries so far are similar to each other, so if hero, unit and city all win from different ideas, there is chance that they will be in conflict visually.
Actually, thats another thing .-. Doesn't quest 2 have one winner? So assuming you can take part with only one of three, then that means winner can design other two without voters having voted for them. Meaning that'd be unfair against votes since they wouldn't know what the person would design units and city look like if they only had hero and so on.

That leaves the question about whether you can take part without all three. I kinda doubt it since rules say "and". And other scenario would be that there could be multiple winners.
I hope nobody minds me being loud about rules <_< I could otherwise just be a jerk and not say anything and not give people chance to add to their entries so they qualify.
I will quickly jump in and say I'd like to hear some clarification from amplitude on the exact requirements. They were supposed to learn from quest 1 As of now I'm unsure what is optional and what is required... If I can get a way with just unit description instead of actual drawings then yey.
At first the city center is simply one large temple, however that changes as the city expands.
Also based on all the lore, I think there might be a possibility for the Cultists to have an Autumn. Yes, an Autumn. It might be a far fetched lore idea so let me know please ^^
