Does anyone thought about the unspoken as a hero ? or even the queen ? It could be fun to play the queen, you couldnt move until city gets to level 3 , but then...! I'm really curious about how people imagine those two. .
They aren't really supposed to be heroes and if they were, it'd be lame because they would be gameplay wise too weak when compared to lore and it wouldn't make sense for them to be recruited by other factions.
Anyway, I did actually post quick hasty sketch of my version of the queen http://forums.amplitude-studios.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10768&d=1400777445 . Its supposed to be building sized since my idea of city is that city centre is just huge ass city sized cathedral that contains queen's body hence it being church AND "tomb/throne" of the queen. The picture on right is the humanoid "interface" of the queen that is human sized. My idea of Unspoken is much simpler, just this humanoid faceless thing that works as talk person for queen since queen can't move. I'd imagine queen being some kind of weird organic computer, but thats going into my imagination running wild.

From my understand of what I had read about the lore behind the Eternal End, the queen's actually the perfect Endless, with beautiful human-like body and without the vices that the Endless had. She however has been fragile or something along those lines so had to be kept sealing within the machine so that she can continue living on wards until the time comes when she can stand up and face the enemies that she so despises.

Meh. Easy to get confused, wasn't the queen supposed to be monstrous one but sane and unspoken the beautiful one but insane?
Either way, thats lame in my opinion if true I do admit that I've gotten few times confused when reading through the descriptions, but yeah. Also, if they are so perfect(which is impossible by default) why do they want to kill all Endless? Also, if they are really beautiful Endless, that'd be lame. Especially since Endless are kinda.. Human like already. We don't have seen one in flesh, but android hero and virual endless hero kinda tells us what their faces look like.
One thing I don't understand even though I've read description several times... So wait, the two were created for purpose of killing all of Endless? Why would Endless create something like that on purpose? Also, wait, if Queen is beautiful and crap, what is point of creating Unspoken to be "perfect" version of queen? Or did I again understand something wrong

No faction, so far, supports its leaders to be heroes usable on the battlefield or for city administration. And its good that they don't: A leader has duties to the empire, not just to one city or one army. Of course, the cultists have only one city, but..: Making an exception for the cult would be even worse. The Queen and the Unspoken are both too powerful to be used as anything else than a questgiver or an NPC. Moreover, the Queen is immovable, her armor is so heavy, she cannot move without heavy machinery that doesn't exist at the start of the game or use of amounts of dust that are just extremely expensive. She couldn't defend her own city in case of an attack, directly, like any other hero could. Too many exceptions to implement into the game, in my opinion.
The Unspoken though has the simple problem that he's supposed to be chaotic and hard/impossible to control. Making the player direct him just doesn't fit his nature. Not at all. ^^

I didn't even think of that point, primarily, but it's correct.

The Unspoken used up basically all dust he could get hold of to connect the Queen on her throne to the Facility and he repaired it to some measure (which probably took ages, given how easy it is to distract him). Now he's roaming around on his own and following sometimes the purpose of the queen and sometimes doing whatever's on his many minds. The "voices" of the Queen are the Heralds:

Some of the servants still have functional loudspeakers and through those Heralds she broadcasts what needs to be done and whispers regularly about her hatred of the gods that abandoned them with her on this dying planet, that killed Auriga, that need to be punished.

She is what a bunch of Virtuals and Concrete Endless thought to be "perfection", wildly mixing genetics, dust and parts of consciousnesses. She was armored with an insane amount of very dense matter, making her immovable and almost indestructible. Even if she could move, the ground beneath her would break and swallow her without proper support.
The question of the form of her body is a bit hazy, though, because we do not know the forms the Concrete Endless took for their bodies, at the time. When the ES Endless hero came up and looked to be humanoid, the devs answered that the Endless could change their bodily forms, easily. We can guess they're all shapeshifters, even if the Queen definitely isn't. She's frozen in time, regarding her form. Eternal.

Depends on whether randomness and aggression are more monstrous to you than cold efficiency and furious protectiveness?

The joke is: When the Dust wars began, the same group of researchers made the Queen as their one perfect "agreement" of Virtual and Concrete ideals. Basically make one perfect being, show it to the warring sides, hope they stop bashing their heads in. Of course, it didn't work.
Seeing the mounting transgressions and the genocidal proportions of this war spanning the whole galaxy, the same researchers went and made a being that would express all their horror and revulsion for their own kind, slaughtering themselves with abandon. As they were perfectionists, they erased their own beings, sacrificing them to generate the Unspoken. Their "angel of retribution", so to say, when they knew the War had reached Auriga and they were likely to die, anyways.
You might argue that the Queen in her prison, having been abandoned by the very ones that promised her the servitude of the whole empire of the Endless, had more than enough time to become very much enraged. And the Unspoken, a being created to annihilate the rest of the Endless, as the one and only companion, certainly didn't help with her rationality.

Ah ! it didn't come to my mind..
I'm actually wondering if we can propose multiple heroes, because the more I put myself into the daughter, the more I think it would be great to play with it as a hero instead of the priest. Maybe with two arms, one human and the other like I draw it. Or canons. Canons sounds great. And a different ring behind her head. A cross maybe.

Ah, thanks for clearing stuff up. Good to hear that their appearance is left to interpretation. Humanoid "beautiful"/normal looking abominations do have their place and can be pretty cool, but in this case I prefer more lovecraftian abominations. Thats why I said it's be lame if Queen is just beautiful humanoid that is unable to move. Even in my weird interpretation I don't mind if the her "interface body"(I have no idea what to call it. I'd say that the mass of things is the real body while the humanoid upper body hanging from it is just the part that talks... So if Queen would be computer, the humanoid torso part would be the interface.) looks beautiful as long its connected to that weird mass of metal and organic material I have no idea how to describe.
Of course, doesn't matter really since we aren't designing it, devs are if Queen and Unspoken are in final version. Hell, maybe we will never see them directly and they will just be described for sake of mystery.
My first post on this forum, been lurking for a while and now I decided to give this competition a try.
Nosferatiel's faction was really inspiring, so this is my interpretation of Cultists of the Eternal End.
Didn't have time to join earlier so this will be in a form of few drawings, nothing too specific, just some designs which will represent the general feel of the faction I had in my mind. Might be a total miss, but was worth a try.
I want to start with architecture. What I had in mind were tall stone towers with organic cores, combination of technology and remains of living organisms. Wanted to maintain the simplistic "obelix/monolith/mausoleum" look but break the form a bit with situational ornaments. So it it gives a nice balance of "menacing" and "sublime".
Building styles:
Automaton watchman and cityscape:
Stylized cultist procession inside the city walls:
I pictured the building method as shown in the first picture, starting as enormous stone buildings, OMCETS slowly start to build the "organic spiral" in the center from the remains of dead or sacrificed cultists. As that organic/synthetic mass of flesh, bones, tissue and metal is growing inside, it starts to elevate the building. As it becomes taller and taller, little obedient automaton drones slowly start filling the holes from the top to the bottom, protecting the soft structure within with a layer of stone. Over the time towers become bigger and bigger, but the spirals are almost always exposed at the bottom. So the inside of the buildings is mainly tunnels and rooms made out of bones and metal, while the outside walls are smooth stone. But this pretty much only applies to the lore, since there won't be apparent advancement with the city look in game, I think.
Next are couple of character/unit designs. While none of these really fill a role of a certain unit perfectly, I just wanted to post them so you get the general vibe and theme I had in mind.
Possible concept of The Nameless Guard, or maybe a generic infantry unit:
Since this faction pretty much relies on robots/automatons as core units (outside of exploiting minor factions), I wanted to experiment with different types of automatons and what roles could they have. They are robotic skeletons of Endless origin which were unearthen and addorned with new armor by the cult. Their look is strongly tied to the architecture of the faction, maintaining the same elongated simple shapes with heavy ornaments on certain spots. The masks of a generic, androgynous face which all the automatons have is the representation of the Queen herself (but maybe not literal, since she isn't necessarily human-looking) and the direct connection she has with them since they basically serve as her eyes, ears and limbs. They are crudely bolted to smooth face surfaces, and other than being ornaments serve no other purpose. Except maybe giving other factions nightmares.
Now, all these could work without the faces too if it is not appropriate, lore wise. Can post face-less versions too.
Three different types of guards, medic, scientist and a guardsman without the mask:
Drone concepts, both humanoid and... drone-ish. Again with the empty face symbol.
Humanoid cultist in simple robes and automaton preacher:
Heavy automaton unit, Scarab:
Their movement is clumsy, like a bear with human limbs. Their bellies are full of spikes, so one can say they kill you by "awkwardly hugging you". Nah, they stomp you to death like a metal baby-faced rhino monster.
Preacher on carriage-scarab followed by cultists:
Human cultist designs:
With faces covered with cloth (not showing the face of living units might be a nice contrast to automaton masks):
Wild walker cultists, female ceremonial robes with shown face, male crossbow-type character:
Delver/Urc cultists:
All these cultists are shown carrying some type of glass vials on their belts. I pictured those being vials for delicate organs cultists harvest from enemies, like hearts or tounges, and which OMCETS use to build the center tomb tower. Since queen only gets the best materials.
The thing what I tried to accomplish with these designs are elegant but disproportionate shapes and slight "uncanny valley" effect. Stylish but creepy empty shells which are controlled by a mysterious entombed being.
I want to go further into the details a bit more so I'll will try to update this post tomorrow with some more sketches and more info.

Out of all entries, so far, you're certainly the artist with the most detailed freehand-style pictures of units.
I have one question, though: If the buildings are organic, inside, they should have some metabolism. Where does the food go in, the waste go out and where in between (hopefully by a different way) do cultists enter and exit the buildings on top of the organic spires? Couldn't find that on your pictures.
As you said, yourself, you wanted to have someting menacing, and the masks you drew certainly achieve that effect.

...Okay, while I reaaaaaaally want to win this time just because I think I had cool ideas, I'm gonna give you one of my votes. Not just because its awesome that you did those yourself(yay for one competitor who can draw himself!) and not because you also went with creepy robots, but because you did awesome job. I mean, wow, those are really creepy robots and really fit fantasy game. I went more into cool ideas(robot cyclops) while you went into really haunting design ._.; Hell, you managed to make really creepy robots without going to organic/mechanic abomination mix. Really fricking awesome
But yeah, while I'm avoiding the fact that I'm considering giving you my vote even if we only get one vote in this poll, do you happen to have hero design in mind? I'm really curious what would you come up for that

I like this very much. If this is what the cultists will look like, it'll almost make up for them beating my Solarians.
The buildings have a very nice feel to them, threatening but also...elegant. And the faces are a great touch.
If I had to pick out of your unit ideas, I'd say the guardsman or human cultist for the tier 1 unit (as infantry), the preacher for tier 2 (as support or ranged), and scarab for tier 3 (as huge monster dude).
When finding a concept to decide upon, I quickly decided on 3 things
- while the cult "heads" are robotics/artificial, I wanted to keep the core army alive, though augmented.
- even if it's a big manipulation (kinda), the followers have established a genuine cult, and have all that apparat going for them
- I wanted to have the religious feeling about them, but thought monk + robotic would be suggested anyway, I went for something else.
- They recruit from all races, but most of them can easily fend for themselves. Those that are presented are made from more humanoid cultists (humans, delvers, wild walkers...)
Banshee
Recuited mostly among female cultists, the banshees have been gifted with loud speakers and psychic projection devices. When charging on the battlefield they can realy and unleash the screams and anger of the Queen herself with devastating effects on the enemies which more than compensate for their lack of protection of those nimble fighters.
Janissary
As hostility grew toward the Cult, the need arose to keep guard and scout for possible incoming armies. The centaurs that joined were helpful but there were not enough of them. From the innards of the city, cultist have unearthed old parts and began affixing it to volunteers. Thus were born the Janissaries, able to outrun most soldiers and safely drench them with bolts and arrows
Djinn
Djinns are a sight to behold, able to stay aborne through the help of a forgotten technology. Our men calls them the cult devils, for they can unleash the horrible Red Dust, a ravenous variety of the commun substance that will aggressively feed on anything it surrounds. Those dangerous clouds stays on the battlefield, harming and ampering anyone who doesn't flee in time.
Immortals
The cult has for long taken a rather low stance, but as tension rise, those who oppose it will certainly turn their sight to the Queen temple. With this in mind, the followers, helped by their Gods have looked to revive the most powerful artefacts and servitors left by their ancestry. They couldn't revive the servitors... not entirely. But now whoever approach the holy lands of the Cult will face those hulking monstrousities. Under their imposing armor one can see moving metal and other mysterious materials. Maybe something is still alive inside those husks. Something with a relentless will to live. Their bodies repair themselves earning them their name.
Harbinger of Dawn
Spreading the word of the Gods is a difficult task. Bound to an imposing throne, The Harbinger dedicates his life to this important task, physically in connection with the Queen and her First Servant.
The Living Domes of the Queen Palace
In my idea, the servants tends to replicate endlessly parts that were decorated by cultists, without rhyme nor reason. Older and smaller structures are swallowed and fused in larger ones. From afar you can see some flash and veins glowing from dust ore other substances.
