This is what I've taken from it as well, and I think it's a legitimately awesome idea. Like a giant Leviathan that's been Cult-izied to fit with their vision of the world.

Really awesome and well thought idea , i really like the facted that you pointed out that there is no chimney because of dust ( handy indeed ) , about your girlfriend design , well i think if you manage to go to G2G vote both your girlfriend's design and yours will count as only your work so if you manage to win i guess you will have to mix the features of both into one . (i guess thats how it works ?).

This design is definitely the most interesting I've seen so far, a good blend of the weird and cool.

Hi !

My girlfriend and I thought we would give this a try, since we both find Telum's artwork was really great and inspiring.

She designed the logo and I made the ship sketches, we hope you'll like it !

I just noticed Bibool had already designed a ship with arms. I did not meant to rip it off, sorry for that.

Old logo : I leave it here because it's used on the ship designs. The one we're suggesting is a little further.

Basically, she didn't want to use the mask design because she wanted to add some variety to what we've seen so far ; so she merged a sun design with a cog to make it look like an eyelid, to figure the attentive eye of the Eternal Queen watching over her minions.

It was meant to be fearsome as well as disturbing, and I reaaally like it.

Actual logo :

Designed after Nosferatiel pointed out the dying sun/watching queen was less meaningful to the Cultists than their hatred for the Endless.

It's rather straightforward : we did not find any satisfying symbol to represent the endless (circles ? meh. Infinite escherian geometrical shapes ? Already done by adder - really nicely I think !), so we took the most generic one : the triangle. We finally kept the circle for endlessness, and the last part is a stylized spear cutting through the triangle.

I changed it a bit again, because the round shape made the spear look... hrm... funny.

Adazu had the idea of making a comparison between his logo and the ones in the game. I found it stunning so I wanted the same for my girlfriend's work, but credit for the idea goes to him.

We removed the circle for clarity.

Please consider the version without a circle as the definitive version.

Next up are my sketches :

I loved the whale design by Sovereign, and I wanted to do something that would inspire deference and might. Since Telum's great artworks already nailed this, I thought that I should make the ship look like a small sailing fort, really building-like. So I thought : what if OMCETS produced the ships themselves ? But since they are supposed to remain close to their Queen, I dropped the idea (you can still see the "brain" behind the mask... well that's what remains of it).

I didn't wanted to put any sails because fabric is not a part of the Cultists architecture, so I put a huge paddle-wheel at the back. Because MIGHT. And the Cultists did not occurred to me as being very flexible beings, hence a really heavy, powerfully propelled ship, hard to maneuver but dreadful all on its own.

These are little more than cleaned roughs, but I don't have time to make it look sexier.

Note that the logos I use in these sketches are early versions. The final one, above, is more polished.

The big automaton can pilot the ship by himself, but in battle its best to have an actual captain. The arms are mobile, and most of the time they are moving the rudders in and out of water to turn (slowly). However in desperate close-combat situations, having a big guy like this slapping ennemy troops off the bridge is quite the dream, isn't it ?

And, yeah, considering how much the Cultists rely on Automatons, I too think the ship itself had be some kind of robotic being.

Cargo access could be larger, so that the ship could embark bigger units, but that's no big deal I think.

Lastly, the rear castle can be used as a temple for the crew to meditate in.

Sorry for the really raw outlines. I made this really fast so you could see how the bridge looks like. Again, early stage logo, not the final one. As written on the picture, the castle is normally about 1/3 taller, but I messed up so that everything would be in sight. The passages are meant for the tallest of the cultists, and the "seat" is also big to fit any kind of hero, so keep in mind everything is larger than it looks.

As for the materials used, I was thinking a smooth grey wood, looking a bit like concrete. Despite their brown color, I think the rudders should be made of metal considering the tremendous strain they have to endure when maneuvering.

I did not put any chimney because it's not coal-propelled. Dust is handy, right ?

Edit : since armies in EL are big consistent groups of soldiers you have to maintain at a cost, I feel like they should be carrying around all sorts of supplies. Supplies which have to be carried, and since Cultists have access to incredible long lost technology, they use a modular, all-terrain kind of automaton, just needing some wood or any light and strong material available to shape them into ships. I also though they could defile Auriga ruins and use parts and stuff to add to the ships (like the archer tower).

I know there are a few issues, some features not matching each other across the sketches (paddle holes !), so please let us know of anything that looks preposterous, or if you have any questions !

If she finishes it in time, I'll also add my girlfriend's own ship design (with my account, she doesn't have one). The logo will be the same.

I don't know if we can make a tiny bit of "advertising" here ? Because she's a graphic designer, always looking for work. If that's okay I'd like to link her portfolio.

Thanks for watching !

Edit : Here is my girlfriend's version of my design. She had in mind that ships should evolve the way the cities do : after researching a technology or upon entering a new era, the ship would look like this :

However this was made before Nosferatiel's advice post, so yeah, it's really not lore friendly. We are aware of this, but we thought we'd share it anyway smiley: smile

You can find my attempt at lore-friendliness just a few lines above, in my first "edit".

I assume I could give this a try aswell. smiley: smile

Logo:

The logo is a fist about to punch a sort of eternal knot mixed with a Penrose triangle. This would illustrate the Cult's goal to destroy the endless.

Ship:

This is a sort of ship on top of a ship. The idea is that since the cult isn't the 'biggest' faction in terms of cities and population they have to make ideal use of what is at their disposal. Therefor their ships would serve as trade ships and army transport ships when needed. Therefor the lower part of the ship is either for goods, or for armies and their leaders, whilst the upper part is for the captain and the ship's crew (since they need to operate the sails etc.)

Great stuff that all of you guys are throwing in here, someday Amplitude should made a joint venture competition so that it would be possible that people combine their work. This time it wouldnt be possible because of the price which will cost amplitude some money but maybe it is possible one day if there is no "money related" price.

Just wanted to say that is great and fun to see that all participants are actually acting in concert for the glory of the queen. It feels like we would be all members of the Cult^^

2 more days to go and I am curious and excited about what comes next ; )

Hello everyone,

We are not yet able to announce the 5th Endless Legend major faction (out of 8) for the simple reason that YOU are about to design it!

We want this Endless Legend faction to be complete and available on the day of the release.

Welcome to the Faction Creation Competition! We have now reached Quest 3: Logo & Ship.

Thanks again from the whole dev team to all participants to Quest 1 and 2. The last G2G vote for the Cultists visuals was still uncertain until the very end!

THE QUESTS

This faction creation is divided in 3 Quests, and will therefore request a real community teamwork. Here's where we stand:

Quest 1: The Biography

  • Submit a Name, a Background Story and a Basic Gameplay Idea. [COMPLETED]
  • Vote for your favourite proposal in the forum polls. [COMPLETED]
  • The best three submissions will be chosen for a GAMES2GETHER vote. [COMPLETED]

Quest 2: Hero, Units and City

  • Submit your Hero, Units and City based on the winning Biography. [COMPLETED]
  • Vote for your favourite proposal in the forum polls. [COMPLETED]
  • The best three submissions will be chosen for a GAMES2GETHER vote. [COMPLETED]

Quest 3: Logo and Ship

  • Submit your Logo and Ship based on the winning Biography, Hero, Units and City. [ON-GOING] smiley: approval
  • Vote for your favourite proposal in the forum polls.
  • The best three submissions will be chosen for a GAMES2GETHER vote.

THE GUIDELINES

Once again, this competition is purely about visuals! Indeed, we are calling all the artists among you and are encouraging you to participate.

The idea is to use any support you want to show the community how you visualise the look of the Cultists of the Eternal End logo and ship.

Keep in mind that the community will vote for their favourite logo and ship, so be convincing!

Contest rules: 2014_ Amplitude_Studios_Faction_Creation_Competition.pdf

Don't hesitate to help each other out! Try to give constructive feedback on the participants' proposals. Keep in mind that this is mainly a teamwork, not only between quests but also between yourselves with the same goal, make that faction look good! smiley: cool

  • Keep in mind that this should be the result of your own work, without any copyright infringement.
  • Submissions must be posted in this thread: upload your work directly, as it will allow everyone to view your attachments without downloading anything or being redirected to another website.
  • One entry in one post only: please update the post where you posted your entry as this is the one we will link in the next step of the contest.
  • Do not hesitate to describe your work and inspirations.

THE REWARD

The winner of each Quest will:

  • see their proposals* implemented in-game and get their name in the credits of the game.

Agreed. Bibool, I like your idea, but I like the concept that Sovereign came up with more. Still a nice design, though I'd skip the crab legs afixed to the rear.

Personally that's what makes it such a cool design in my opinion. It would even work on land with long ships supported by a caterpillar like leg structure.

I really liked the others designs, very inspiring.

Yeah, I've been wondering to let them or not, and I finally made a choice by spleeting the boat in two. It is the last design I think, now i will just make it more detailed smiley: smile

Coming back to this conquest with something based on Tellum's design ! I'm running out of time to draw anything more, but I will try to add something during the process, and polish the final design a bit more (for the back cabin for example). But this is pretty much the way I see the boat, with people on it manoeuvring (like in a classic ship), but with something awkward that implied it "lives" by its own.

For the symbol, I didn't want something detailed but something enough eloquent, so I thought "why not a head in a diamond ?". I still need a color though..

Ha seems like my "Sun" idea is going to establish itself.

Actually i had several sun like symbols in mind to use as tattoos on my drawings of cultists i never got around to posting, after I saw Telum's drawing, I was like "I'm Out". I settled on this one because it was simple enough for the faction logo and didn't look like i ripped off from Quake or some other video game property.

My boat was a combination of riverboats and pre-dreadnought warships, but they are the best i can manage using MS paint lol
