I guess we do now... not that much interested in the Vodyani, but  I was pleasantly surprised to see everyone's favourite gas giant dwellers make a comeback as a Minor Faction.

And the fact that minor factions are not just a tiny inconvenience in early game that you can just swat in one battle and forget about them completely for the rest of the game. I do think that the early game needed some military conflict before you encounter other Major factions.

The new race is basically religious fanaticism in a nutshell. They literally called what looked like aliens, demons, and anyone who diverts from their blind Endless fanaticism is basically a heretic marked for death.

True, I was just thinking Quarrian due to the fact that they seem to be ship bound and nomadic

So far we have Sophons, Cravers, Lumeris, Vodyani, The Unfallen and Humans (everybody and their mother knows they will be added, it's just a matter of time). That just leaves 2 more unrevealed races, which could be returning ES1 factions, or brand new ones.

Out of the races revealed so far, we have 1 Scentific, 1 Pacifist, 1 Religious and 1 Militarist faction. Knowing that the Unfallen are also pacifists focused on diplomacy and defence, that means one of the unrevealed races is Industrialist and the last one is Ecologist.

The only races from ES1 that could fit thematically as Industrialists or Ecologists are the Sowers and  Automatons. If the two unrevealed factions will be new to the Endless universe, then I have no clue what they could be, although I have a general idea of what their themes would be focused on. There is also the possibility that they one of the factions will be a new one and the other a returning ES1 race.

I could however, be wrong, since it's just educated guesswork based on available info and patterns.

Lumeris would be the economic Civ.

Their playstyle revolved heavily around it, yes. But the wiki shows their political ideology as Pacifists, and all races, Major or Minor have a core ideology around which they're built: Industrialists/Pacifists/Scientists/Militarists/Ecologists/Religious.

I agree with UndeadPuppy that the Sowers and Automatons fit the missing focus of industrialists and ecologist, if this is the way they distribute the faction, e.a. for every political idiology at least one faction.

My guess is on the Sowers. They fit the industiral and ecologist idiology and where suitable for the Wonder Victory in ES1, which will perhaps be another Victory type in ES2. (In another thread is a picture of different victory types and some speculation about it. The Wonder Victory is spculated to be linked to the industrial Victory Condition.)

Considering the Automatons it will be interesting to see how they treat them since they are a user created faction. If they implement them as a major faction this would be the second user created faction for ES2, albeit they would probably design them the way they see fit. Personaly I would include them as a minor faction. That way they are still part of the Endless Universe. I can't imagine they will drop them, since they are user created.

The Automatons would be good as a minor, but I'm really hoping we see more new than old in ES2.

I really like the Lumeris because they're so multi-faceted.  There are actual competing interests within their society and the possibility to adapt to different circumstances which you don't see with factions from the original.  There would need to be a pretty significant evolution to make the Sowers fit this paradigm.  They might be better off only appearing as freelance heroes.

Although i would like to see some of the ES races in ES2 maybe it will be better to add them as minor or on later DLC and have the 2 last ones be something totally new.

They can add new races in the DLC instead...it's not like there's a hidden rule to these things.

Personally I'd want to see new races over the old ones.

We've already got a 50/50 mix of old and new in the four revealed.   Plus the inevitable human faction (whatever form they take)  and Unfallen.

So of the two left, I'd like to see at least one new race.    I have nothing against returning races but I feel with how creative Amplitude has been with the newcomers I want to see more of that.

True, but I feel like they can easily update the older races and turn them into something we'd like more as well.

But yeah, I'm fine with 50/50 old and new, as long as the rest end up in DLC's or as Minor Factions.

I think they could expand the Sowers to fit your idea of a more complex society. Since they are an AI faction there could be potential interesting stories about wether they should stick to their programming or alter themself and evolve, since the Endles didn't return. They could also interpret their purpose of terraforming and preperation for the return of the Endless differently. I could see a forming of a militaristic party after the Sowers met some hostile Factions which stand in their way of their programming.

I am curios how they will expand the internal strife for the Cravers. They seem more one dimensional than the Sowers.

I agree with a good mix of old and new and hope that most of the old Faction which won't make it as a major faction will still come back as a minor. The minor factions is a great way to include them.

With the detailed political system in place and Amplitude focus on it, i speculate, that the past "Human" factions will be merged into 1.

United Empire being the ruling party at the start, obviously with the Industrial agenda.

Vaulters/Mezari as Scientists

Sheredyn the Militarists

Pilgrims the Pacifists

And 2 new ones for Ecologists and Religious

The Jack-of-all-Trades Faction, the gameplay will revolve around shifting power between the groups and changing not just the senate composition, but also Faction Traits. With parties being more rebellious and difficult to control, but also giving more benefits to the Faction.

What do you guys think?

I'm fairly certain the United Empire is in and as an Industrialist faction. Remember, they are essentially aggressive capitalists, sort of the British Empire in space. The Amoebas might be back as an Ecologist faction. They fit the bill, and they are one of the first game's most colorful factions. Assuming there are no more new factions, I would also like to see the Horatio back, but I am not sure what their ideology would be. Religious, maybe?
