Faction Creation Contest | Game Design

Reply

Hey guys and gals!

Thanks to all of you who participated, voted, or both! The Endless Space 2 Faction Creation attracted 185 submissions! There were some hiccups along the way, so we tried to find a compromise that would be the fairest to all participants. To that end, we selected the top twelve most popular entries, instead of the usual three. We know this doesn't solve all issues that were brought up, but we hope this alleviates them. Moving forward, we'll be proceeding a little differently to make sure that everybody gets a fair chance.

Without further ado, here are the most popular Major Faction designs! Click on the entries for a link to the submission threads proper, to check out what their gameplay entails! Click the  icon to vote for a submission!

PLEASE NOTE THAT AT THIS STEP YOU CAN ONLY VOTE FOR ONE SUBMISSION AND CANNOT REALLOCATE YOUR VOTE!

I'm sad that my voted faction isn't winning but I don't understand why everyone is so salty about the order of the species...

This happened the last time too with Endless Legend. A great idea was created, and people got bitter/mad/salty over the winner, who actually had a great idea. It's one of my favorite factions in Endless Legend.

This time around, it's the same thing. There are several great ideas, but only one will win. I wish them all the best of luck!

which faction was it?

Cultists, I believe.

I'm just not a fan how people are going to other sites and begging people to vote for their submissions, and it's not just EndlessCrashes or DevildogFF. It's a good portion of them. I understand why though. When one person starts to do it, they start to think they won't have a fighting chance unless they do it to, especially when they can't quite wrap their head around why they are so far behind. The competition slides away from being who has the best idea for a faction to who can gain the most exposure to their entry and drum up the most votes. On top of that, people won't learn about the game out of interest, but because the community pesters others into this contest. What kind of reputation does that leave? I may be new here but if the behavior of the community was characterized by this and constant sidestepping of the issue, I would avoid it like the plague.

Maybe I'm being hyperbolic and this is tossing fire at a volatile situation, but it needs to be addressed.

I understand. I thought it was just on this site. it's unfair that it worked that way this time but I hope they will do other thing like this because I would love to create a part of this game  and I was to late for the contest.

No WeatherKin arent that Overpowered.

Also every idea was there before and we could find references in other works and novels of every of the 12 submissions.

Sentient Cloads is an old (solaris etc) but solid idea the WeatherKin arent the first and will not be the last cloud idea and thats absolutely fine.

Almost every fantasy Author (celebrated ones) are using orcs and elves and we could always says "Tolkien,Tolkien,Tolkien" and even he doesnt came up with elves for the first time.

BTW: Its not so 100% clear to me from the description ("we selected the top twelve most popular entries, instead of the usual three")

Sry for doppel post but I most of the time I cant edit my posts these days out of reasons unknown

I wanted to ask

As it is not so 100% clear to me from the description ("we selected the top twelve most popular entries, instead of the usual three")

I asking myself if this is already the final stage of phase 1 of the Competetion or if there is a a additional votingphase between the top 3 submissions.

This is the final stage of phase 1. The winner here is the winner overall.

That is correct. This is the final stage of Phase 1 - Design.

Yeah, if you know DD at all you'd know it's sarcasm. Especially when interacting with others in the explorminate community.

Wow what a swell guy!

This is so incredibly unsportsmanlike that I want to puke. This is what it's coming down to now? American Politics kind of stuff?

I've never attacked you or said anything remotely bad about you, yet you've followed me to various forums and posts to try to attack me, put my idea down, and now you're trying to make me look like a bad guy?

Mansen and I have known each other for a very long time. He was one of the first eXplorminate fans and he's an all-around great guy. He *KNOWS* me. You don't. I would never say that to another eXplorminator and mean it.

You're incredibly out of line.

You're a class act. I like your faction. I voted for it in the first round. But, had I not cast my vote and I was waiting to see how the tides are turning, I wouldn't vote for it now.

I think YOU'RE the swell guy. Good job buddy.

My bad, I guess I took him seriously.  I honestly thought he was mad at someone for voting against him.

I think, at this point, it might be a good idea to take a step back. We all get that you are trying to do the best you can for your creation. However, it is becoming rather clear that the way you've handled things is hurting your case more than helping really. There are a number of solid ideas here so let's just cast our votes and let those do the talking rather than trying to go after one another. I really don't want things like this to make Amplitude, or the new Sega Overlords, think that these contests are more trouble than they are worth and subsequently stop them.

I'm quite disappointed with the way things have been going in these finals. I'll be contacting some of you in private, but in the future, please always assume the best of your fellow community member, that'll save us all a headache.

Is it just a coincidence that my wife made some popcorn just as I was about to check new comments on this forum???  OK, sarcasm aside.
