How are you people liking the alpha so far?

I just pre-ordered the game and am downloading what I am assuming is the alpha via STEAM right now.



What are your first impressions on it?

It has its issus but the game is grate!!! Beeing alpha this game is awasome!

Same as znork, I have played the game since being offered the opportunity to pre-test it and love it.

Being overworked and so on... nonetheless managed to pack over 50 hours playing time. smiley: smile

What Sharidann said I can only concur with. Although I think he is ahead of me in terms of gaming-hrs. ^^

Yes, it is great apart from all my ships looking the same... Going to get my first beam weapon ships into the fight very soon. Grahpics are very nice and the game is very easy to comprehend.



I'm going to play on a much bigger map next time though.

a question before i decide to preorder.. how is the learning curve ? is it steep? and boygor says every ship look the same, i thought there was a high degree of customization on ships? am i mistaken on this?

Currently there is only one hull design per class(per race) but i'd be very surprised if this was to remain. Plenty of difficult options smiley: smile

It is really, really good, and especially beautiful. Also there is more polish in the alpha version than in most final commercial game. Some small (but important) things are missing:

* ability to reorder production queue

* Listing of all colonisable systems

* switching from one colonised systems to the other quickly

I'm not sure what you mean here, you can click on the empire button up the top to quickly view colonies?

yeah re-ordering would help

listing of colonisable systems could potentially be a hell of a long list depending on how many systems youve found

you can switch through colonised systems quickly by going into the empire menu and selecting the system

its like rock paper scissors to some extent, you don't know what the enemy is going to play so you kind of have to guess. But say if you play rock and they play paper, you can still win or draw depending on the power of your ships (its not actually rock paper scissors :P its using battle cards like offensive,defensive,engineering blah blah)

I really love the look of this game but that sounds potentially awful. Does random chance really have such a huge effect on combat resolution?

hey guys!

first a big thanks for your warm messages, it is giving us such an energy boost!! and you need lots of energy when finishing a game smiley: wink





Boygor, in the alpha you should see ships for each factions with 6 different ships types with 4 different visuals, for each playable faction. you can research new hulls in the Expansion tree (at the bottom in the science screen)



Stilgar, we have fixed for the next version the reordering of the production queue.

it is true that we don't have a listing of all the colonisable systems. (when you see a white dot on the galaxy it means at least one planet can be colonized). if that feedback is recurrent we'll do our best to help.

once you have colonized 2 sytems or more, you should see arrows on the side of the screen that let you scroll between your colonized systems, alternatively you can use the keyboard arows right / left.
