+1

Specially the production queue re-ordering and the listing of colonisable systems. But I also felt the same way as you on the 3rd suggestion. At times I also felt the need to switch between systems with colonies more easily.

Stilgar, we have fixed for the next version the reordering of the production queue.

Great! smiley: cool

it is true that we don't have a listing of all the colonisable systems. (when you see a white dot on the galaxy it means at least one planet can be colonized). if that feedback is recurrent we'll do our best to help.

The white dot helps, it really does. But in later games in huge games with 50 white dots... How can we know what system we should head to next? We should be able to see all colonisable planets and be able to sort by size, type, resources present, anomalies present, etc. I know you can figure out a cool way to do that juding from what I've seen so far.

I agree. it's always useful to be able to sort and order a big list of potential planets rather than having to inspect each one individually.

The one big problem I have so far is that I feel the early game is dreadfully boring.

This is actually a problem with lots of strategy games and not just this one, where you spend hours and hours at the begining of the game just clicking the "end turn" button over and over while your empire is still too small to do anything interesting.

I suggest the devs give the player something more fun to do during the early game.

Also is it just me or is the AI god like? According to the game it has almost 6 times as much score as I do? Perhaps I am just not any good at the game smiley: frown

EDIT: And oh yea, another problem I have is with the tech tree. It feels and looks all big and clustered, and it makes it difficult to read. I think you guys would have been better off having seperate tabs for each tech tree and then making each tree more linear. The current tech tree is just hard and annoying to read and understand.

My first impression: Unbelievable this is an alpha; everything looks so polished... it's much better than some other "finished" games out there. Some minor annoyances (I cant change the resolution to 1920x1200, reordering queues as you all stated), that I cant doubt that will be fixed.

The UI is fantastic, intuitive, quick, responsive. The game art is fantastic. This is a talented studio. Maybe this is the game I've waiting for years. I havent seen a battle yet, but the things I'm reading about them look fine. Anyway I dont play 4x games to fight, only when is necessary smiley: stickouttongue

But I really must go to sleep now. I dont want, but I must smiley: wink

I think it has alot of potential, right now there seems to be alot of feedback missing, and what i mean by that is information on what planets can be colonized and why should i colonize a planet. Also a more interactive tutorial that teaches how to build ships (not design them) would be great, but i think it has alot of potential, and my friends are all excited for this game.

I haven't seen any combat yet but am wondering what it is like.

Is it fun? Are the battles cool? Does your ship's weapon types effect the battles (for example if there are lots of rocket ships will there be more rockets visible in the battle?)?

Also how does the card game thing work out for you?

What are your thoughts on combat so far?

Combat looks great, the effects are really awesome and the whole feel is epic enough to be a lot of fun IMO. Weapon types affect the battles in a BIG way. The AI just had a party with my ships because they had Hyperium for torpedoes and half of my ships couldn't really get into range for the kinetic weapons to do their job. The cards also affect the outcome quite drastically, the only problem is that I don't know them all yet and you don't have much time to decide which to use.

Hey. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the alpha so far, after my first 50 turns. Some of them are merely things that surprised me, one I believe it's a bug and the other are merely suggestions. In any case here they are:

  • Colonization techs always first, really cheap to ignore; not much of a choice, since you will want to get the best planets first most of the time
  • Love the "free" war on outposts, the whole mechanic really is awesome
  • UI Great, but would love a system button for colonization when there is a colony ship on system
  • Automatic FIDS conversion when queue is empty or at least a warning, had my first colony idle needlesly
  • Notification for scout discovering a new system, again my scouts were idle a couple of turns
  • Great immersive messages on diplomacy events, loved the feeling
  • No drag and drop for reordering items in the build queue
  • In a pirate encounter I couldn't choose either manual or auto, maybe because I had only a colonizer ship. I confirmed this latter with a battlefleet, pirates are not working yet. However then I faced one single bigger pirate ship and I could go to battle then, it seems it doesn't work for smaller pirate ships.
  • Can see system colonization even when I don't have "sight" of the system, I believe this is WASD but I thought I should mention it anyways
  • It would be great if the right mouse button would dismiss event messages
  • Great having WASD for map movement, although hotkeys for the different screens are missing
  • Autosave settings missing
  • The combat camera needs to be more dynamic, it's just too static at this time. It should rotate and zoom depending on the action.

I'm interested if anyone can compare the combat to board games like Axis and Allies or Twilight Imperium. I liked how the combat (especially in the latter) was simple (amass a fleet, dump it on opponent), but achieved moderate complexity through tech upgrades and racial bonuses. I'm honestly pretty terrible at true tactics games that necessitate micromanagement, so if this game has a system similar to A&A or TI, I'm going to be super excited. If not, guess I'm gonna hedge most of my bets on different victory conditions smiley: stickouttongue

I think it's pretty cool how it is in a cinematic view. It kind of reminds me of Mass Effect, even though the biggest battle I've gotten in to was 3 ships for another 3 ships. Can you imagine what it would be like with HUGE fleets and HUGE ships!

I liked the card system. Some of the camera angles during the battles were a bit unflattering or weird though.

Well they aren't literal playing cards. They are tactics cards. Basically your entire combat sequence is pick 3 of them. 1 tactic for long ranger, 1 for medium, and 1 for melee. Some cards counter other cards, so its more like playing rock paper scissors instead of any actual combat.

Hey, I agree with almost everything you just said, for the pirates though I think it's more about your type of ships? I had a scout encounter a pirate fleet of 2 ships and I could not choose manual. When I sent my corvettes to deal with them so they would not ambush my colony ships I was able to choose manual. So perhaps the scouts and colony ships can't participate in manual battle? It is true the camera is too static in the battles but I must say I like a lot the way they went with the combat.

So essentially it comes down to who has a bigger and/or better equipped fleet? How much effect do the strategy cards have? Do they require a lot of research to become viable (either by unlocking useful ones or by upgrading existing ones)?

I like the game a lot. I think they got the balance between complexity and user friendliness quite well. Despite some comments I saw in the forums on the combat I, in my opinion, like it a lot. So far I'm very impressed with the state of the alpha and can't wait for the full release. I'll probably have played 50 hours in no time too!
