After reading about both games, I would instead ask what they have in common; instead of in what do they differ. Obviously you have not done that yet smiley: wink

That's all tactic , it is not strategy warfare game, it is a strategy empire management game. A choices you've mentioned will dictate and tactic you will choose on the field of battle, it will not dictate a strategy for your empire.

A strategy would be if you build ships or not, or you go for research, or you go for number of expansion over galaxy. If you go for peaceful diplomatic relations or you go for all out war. Type of ships is a tactical choice if you make a strategy choice to use the ships at all. It is also a micromanagement.

which is why GSB was different because you spent energy designing the ship layout. Gave some general strategy guidelines to your fleet... then step back and watch them fight without your input.

But I full agree balance is critical and why it's called 4X genre not 1X/3x

Yes it is a very important aspect but from what I read about stardrive, this aspect will be overbearing, somehow...

It is one of the main challenges of 4X, to be able to convey all aspects without one being overbearing and leading to micro-management. From what I see in stardrive, you look at micro-management for ship design - which is ok - but also in battle, which is not necessarily what I am looking for in a 4X game.

Also Star Drive seems to have a heavy focus on the space battles and custom ship designs, which is - for me - only one aspect of 4x.

Yeah, but it's a very important aspect.

Stardrive is also a kickstarter-project unlike Endless space which already has fundings.

Turn based campaign and more depth to the gameplay systems from what I have read about both.
