Ok I dont know if anyone has said this so far but I just want to say that the current combat system makes me feel really uninvolved. I've played more games in my day than steam has on it. There are few games where I put so much time into building an army up just to sit back and hope it goes well. This card system feels lazy almost. I dont mean to sound rude, that is just how I feel about it. I know its an "indie" game but so far these games seem to be lacking that extra mile that makes them incredible. SO here are a few reasons to support my comments.

1. 5 ships is hardly a fleet, I know for early stability issues this is cool but it would be rather righteous to see 20-25 ships flying around at a time.

2. Separating into groups in the fight. During combat I think it would be incredible to create subgroups to such as a vanguard unit (which I use in many games) to lead the charge and take the first heavy hits. I think this would dramatically increase the players involvement.

3. Detail on ships. I dont want my fleet to look like the average joe. I think such things as decals and flags would be amazing for giving a more personalized feel for MY fleet. Look how well RPG games give a player a personal sense today like in Skyrim and Mass Effect 3.

Believe me I fully understand its in alpha and there is A LOT coming. I just want to throw my 2 sense out after 30+ hours of game play in an alpha I think I have a pretty good feel for it so far.

With more cards/animations and sounds in combat I could settle for the current system though my personal preference would be for far more active control. I love the turn based overworld, rts battles in the vein of the total war series.

I posted this somewhere else but I think it is probably better here:

I have not yet played for too long but I have not seen any withdrawal in battle yet. It is always "do or die", with a chance for a draw.

There should be a way to script withdrawal conditions before the battle start me thinks. Sometimes I may want my fleet(s) to avoid battle for whatever reason, in others I may want to try my luck but possibly withdrawing if I lose a certain amount or type of ship or receive so much dammage etc.

Withdrawing would have to incur some kind of dammage penalties or similar so to not make it totally "free" etc.

I mostly like it.

-Not too convinced on the missiles though, i always thought of them as weapons to do a little damage before the real fighting begins, that way your encouraged to mix them with the other weapons. But that's just personal preference i guess. Atm 3 command of ships with missiles can destroy 4 command of ships in my 15 command fleets, so i think they are a smidge OP. Maybe i just need more flack.

-One thing im adamant on is the bullet pathing needs to be changed. For one, the lasers that miss, miss by too much, making it look like your crew never aimed. If they still missed, but just by less, i think it would look more intense. Also the shots that miss need to keep going and not just disappear, but i guess they'll get to that one.

-Oh, and one more thing, rockets really need to be more visible, or maybe have the camera prioritize viewing them, cause i usually never spot them as they pwn my n00bs.

Heh perhaps fighters should be added with first person view from the pilot: "Closing on the target... wait! a missile!!" *static*

I do like it how it is, but a few changes might be nice. I'm not making any suggestions I don;t know exactly what. My only complaint would be that the ship manoeuvres are effectively the same for every battle atm, but I should imagine new ones are in the works, it just gets a bit dull watching the same thing over and over again.

yup agreed.

-perhaps a little more of a card/strategy option with heros?

-the camera angles feel a tad disjointed and 'jump around' a bit for my taste. since we are talking cinematic, smooth logical cut scenes would seem to be in order... and always bigger explosions and pew pews

Voted keep as it is. This does not mean that it can't be expanded with more variety/strategic options. I have to say I really like the combat system... refreshing and unique.

I like how the mechanics are at the moment, but would like to have just a little more control over my ships, something like stances, maybe a free camera or able to move it to a different angle...

Keep it as it is, but I would like combat longer.. With more explosions. And the ability to change camera angle.

Im ok with the current type of combat, i just wish it was more like gratuitous space battles, so that everyones fleets can compeate to some level.

The complexity of the system has to be cranked up a few notches, there have to be more animations and you actually have to see the ships firing from weapons or weapon slots and not straight out of the hull.

So with a few additions, this is in my opinion a very nice and even now addicting combat system.

the idea behind the system is good, sure most people (as i) like to have complete control over all combat mechanics, but with some additions the currently developed system would give a fresh breeze in the genre. things like a targeting system (or at least target priorities to begin with) and formations etc. would be necessary to keep the longtime motivation.

I think the only things I'd like are an evasion chance for ships with good engines (To make that huge tonnage use more valuable combat wise) and more cards. Because it feels like theres some cards just missing (Like a missile damage boost card.)

I am voting against the current combat system, but i would still like to keep with the current type of system we already have.

System is very nice once you get used to it, but:

-camera would be if not fully free moving then at least have some degree of control (selectable wiews...)

-more cards would be nice, but well, as I went through them, there is not much to do more...

-targeting controls-at least "target big/small first"
