Sometimes it's better to hide your budget with a giant flashy explosion instead of making a half assed one because of budgets.

And when you play the game, you feel those explosions, trust me, if you have a frigate next to a capship when it blows up it can take a full health ship with it.

Haha, well a few times it actually was quite cinematic. One time the camera angle changed so I saw my missile volley destroy 3/4 of a fleet. Then it changes to a close up of my hull and like that the magic was gone.

Yes, a free roaming camera or camera that I can focus on a particular ship during a battle would be lovely too.

I'd like to add that it would be nice if the camera would actually show things getting destroyed WHEN they get destroyed and not just when the camera happens to pan over them. Most of the time I just get "Victory" while the camera cinematically pans over my fleet without actually having seen a single ship destroyed.

Or just generally more camera control.

Hopefully combat cinematics will get a lot of work. We already need manual camera control, or at least some settings that don't make us stare at engines all day, most of this sounds like good stuff too.

So to condense: Floating/Flaming husks when ships are destroyed, Increased Debris for higher visual settings, More camera control, option to pick cards and skip the battle itself, More cards.

Why not put these up to vote and see if we can get the devs attention? If we are lucky they might work to add it.

P.S. I love the devs for that, it looks like they actually take player input? O.O *in shock*

I agree so much, the game wasn't that fantastic, but the graphics were a sight to behold. I would be so happy if the devs put some of that magic into Endless space.

I especially loved the debris that flew outwards, and continued going slowly for ages.

Nah, I have already found it far more effective to use manual than to let it go on auto. I find that Auto seems to never use repair cards, where as I can go in and finish a battle essentially unharmed, The AI would often end the battle with one or more of my ships badly damaged or destroyed

If they wanna do a kickass trailer that can market the game for them, the ingame combat cinematic would do the job, if done correctly.

From a gamers perspective, yeah its a low prio thing, since we barley use it.. Which is a shame, they need to boost the different card decks so there is a reason to go into it incase of your set in a underdog position.

I for one agree. I would love improved detail and visual effects during the battle. I would want it to have a real atmosphere, so that you can be immersed in the battle. Something enjoyable win or lose.

Of course, I also suggest making it so that you can set up the cards to use and then push skip, for someone whom doesn't want to watch the whole battle.

While I agree they could improve this, it is kinda low on my list of "must have" improvements. smiley: stickouttongue

It may not be fully realistic, but seeing a huge spaceship turn into a massive ball of flame and debris, before exploding in a shock wave that tears through a system is pretty epic

Right now I feel that the explosion effects need more work. The biggest problem I have with them is that they are over way too soon. Watching the ships explode feels more like watching a balloon pop rather then watching a ship explode. It just happens in an instant and is then over. Its lame.

Seeing large ships explode should be a sight to behold, instead its anti-climatic and just not very impressive.

Anyone else thinks they should be improved?

in space there is no air, so they would more pop (the explosion coming from the air inside the ship rather than any outside). Though we can test this by buying once of the old shuttles, launching it and blowing it up.

Watch the missile blasts, and later in the vid some cores going critical...

Best ship explosions ever, bar nothing.

Specifically in that vid, 5:15... Stay away from exploding battleships smiley: wink

I thought those effects where pretty meh. Its mostly just a big green flash.
